Michigan gets another CB for Jalen Terry

Submitted by njvictor on October 19th, 2019 at 12:23 PM

This time from Dylan Prezkop. Matt D said that Michigan hasn't even contacted him, but this is the second CB?

Jalen Terry decommitted because he didn’t want to be apart of a 2 PG class

Zeb Jackson is committed to Michigan

Just out of curiosity...is this kid someone we really need or want?  Does MSU still want him or were they giving him the cold shoulder so he jumped ship?  I don’t follow recruiting that close anymore so any insight would be great!

The staff has not been in contact with Jalen Terry. The guard priorities are clear in Nimari Burnett and Jaden Springer. Moses Moody can perhaps be lumped in with that group, although he's much more of a wing prospect.

Even if Zeb Jackson weren't already in the mix, and Burnett/Springer/Moody weren't plan A types, I don't know that the staff would make a move here.

Zeb is a PG. His best quality on the offensive side of the ball is breaking down the defense and finding teammates on dump-offs IMO. Some of the scouts in OH that evaluate him in HS settings seem to believe he’s a high volume scorer that isn’t necessarily a willing passer, but more of a ball dominant prospect that takes a lot of contested jumpers off the dribble.

Nimari is the epitome of a combo-Guard. That term gets thrown around a lot as code word for prospects that don’t necessarily shoot the ball well, and also lack ideal playmaking/vision, but thrive as scoring iso guards. Burnett is a TRUE combo-Guard that can playmake for others on the ball, in addition to space the floor from distance as an off-ball shooter. Really versatile guard.

I also see Zeb as a high volume scorer at the 2 from watching his clips.

i haven’t watched any on Burnett but a good friends son played at PP, him and Burnett never played together but he’s still connected. When I asked he said he was told Howard is recruiting Zeb and Burnett as PG

You make it sound like it is an expense with no benefit to the person incurring the expense e.g. Griese. Except that Howard gets basically an additional scholarship for the cost of tuition/board since his son doesn't take up one of the 13. In turn that benefits the team, particularly as scholarship management becomes increasingly important if we move to recruit one and done types. The program benefit should ultimately flow into benefiting Juwan's career and earnings (in theory). I mean, I'm not going to try to put a number on the EV of a scholarship saved but when you consider the revenue numbers in B1G basketball, coaches salaries, rumored numbers for bagmen fees on recruits, etc there are some pieces of evidence that suggest it's actually a pretty good investment for Juwan. One scholarship only gets you an incremental asset, no it's probably not a big deal, but given the $$$$ involved in hoops you don't have to move the needle much before you get a positive return.

If none of those guys were involved, it would be pretty dumb to not go after Terry. And honestly, I wouldn't mind if we went after him anyway.

He's a really athletic player and it would do wonders for setting up in state recruiting. Height isn't everything in basketball

This is an excellent point. While Terry may not be at the top of the wish list getting one of the top in-state players is important for optics. And because the media is inundated with click-baiters you know Terry choosing Michigan over MSU would be brought up incessantly.

And while he and Zeb may have redundant skill sets having as many capable ball handlers as possible is critical for a free flowing and effective offense.

We can not all be The Most Interesting Poster in the World, like some on this board pretend to be.

We should all just rejoice in our Lonely Message Board Guydom, post away, and keep scouring the internets for any information at all that pertains to Michigan.

Well we currently have a guard commit ranked in the same range, and have a decent shot at a couple higher ranked guys.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a “hell no,” but the staff has not contacted him. We have higher ranked guys on the board. So he’s certainly not a priority at this point, and might be a backup plan down the line. But the crystal balls are certainly meaningless at this point.
