Michigan Football Pep Rally Friday
I just opened an Instagram story from Michigan Football’s Instagram account, and it was Taylor Upshaw telling people to show up for a pep rally in 2 days. Sounds like the school is putting on a pep rally for the football team.
Can anyone remember if they have done this in the past (under Harbaugh)? #NewEnergy?

How 1950's. Can I sit home and watch it on tv?

You can, but then you'd miss the sock hop they're planning for after the pep rally.

Are we going to the malt shop after? Maybe even a trip to…lovers lane ♥️

No, but the girls are marching around singing "WE LOVE YOU CONRAD, OH YES WE DO!"
And the boys are marching around singing "WE HATE YOU CONRAD, OH YES WE DO!"
And then something something Ann Margaret is smoking hot something something.

I honestly never thought I’d see a reference to Ann Margaret on MGoBlog. Maybe Rachel Welch, but definitely not Ann Margaret.

Bye Bye Birdie, baby.

Who is this Rachel Welch you speak of??? I remember a Raquel Welch, and let me tell you, she was the bee's knees!!!

Let's all meet up at Drake's afterwards.

If only Drake's was still around and we could share a malted together and hit Moe's for some swag after before shining up our penny loafers.
Go Blue.

I just hope this pep rally works as well as the last one I remember on campus: the Fire Dave Brandon Rally of 2014.

It's tomorrow night. For students.
September 1st, 2021 at 8:08 PM ^
Why not open it up to everyone?

because M fans are too cool to go to a pep rally.
it's beneath them like wearing Maize for a maize-out is beneath them.

A pep rally for WMU? Times must be tough.

It’s the first game of the season, after no fans last year.

Are you kidding? If we win, I fully expect Muppets!

The last pep rally I remember was RichRod (before UConn?) where he told all the students to get drunk before the game.
September 1st, 2021 at 8:59 PM ^
I shudder to think what he would have told people to drink before the Penn State game in 2010 - bleach was probably the correct answer, but alas, he said no such thing, so we will never know his precise thoughts on the matter.

Ah, the McGloin coming out party. My son and I drove up to State College from North Carolina for that bit of pain. Bleach would have been a good choice.

Not technically under Harbaugh, but he was part of the team:
I was at the pep rally in 1983 when the cheerleaders announced they were going to try the Wave for the first time the next day at Michigan Stadium (they called it "Maize in Motion").
There's some trivia for you: the official name of the Wave at Michigan Stadium is "Maize in Motion".
The cheerleaders saw it done at Husky Stadium for the away game at Washington that season, and they knew that it would be epic if they could get it done in the bowl at Michigan Stadium with 100,000 fans.
It took forever for people to catch on to the instructions to get it going at the stadium. But once we did, it was a thing of beauty.
They started it out in the student section, but it kept fizzling out in the rich old alumni blue hair section. So the trick to get it working was to switch directions and have it go toward the visitors section. That eventually worked.
Once we got the hang of it, we did it forwards and backwards and fast and slow and loud (and quiet when Bo stormed out on the field and waved his arms to quiet us down because the team could not hear the signals). Imagine that, we were so loud we interrupted the game. Who said we can't be loud?
Pretty productive pep rally.

By the following season, Carl Grapentine was instructing the fans to do it. No shaky starts anymore.

I have it on good authority that there was one extremely hungover freshman holding that thing back.

I went to a pep rally on campus the day before the 2002 Washington game (where Phil Brabbs kicked the game winner) it was open to everyone. Not much, just a few speeches by some players and then Lloyd spoke. The marching band played a couple songs but then had to hurry to practice. It wasn't that long. A very hot August day. The next day at the big house, fans were passing out left and right from the heat during the game. But thank you, Brabbs! Miss two easy chip shots but then kick the game winner that looked like it would have been good from 60 yards.

I'm old as hell and I've never attended a pep rally in my life. They've always seemed a bit ridiculous to me.

Pep rallies are a regular thing in SEC country. Some of you turning your noses up to them, is very fitting.

I love it! I'm expecting Harbaugh to go Full Pacino, or Full Patton at this rally!

The Full Patton!
