Michigan Football Pep Rally Friday

I just opened an Instagram story from Michigan Football’s Instagram account, and it was Taylor Upshaw telling people to show up for a pep rally in 2 days.  Sounds like the school is putting on a pep rally for the football team.

Can anyone remember if they have done this in the past (under Harbaugh)?  #NewEnergy?

Not technically under Harbaugh, but he was part of the team:

I was at the pep rally in 1983 when the cheerleaders announced they were going to try the Wave for the first time the next day at Michigan Stadium (they called it "Maize in Motion").

There's some trivia for you: the official name of the Wave at Michigan Stadium is "Maize in Motion".

The cheerleaders saw it done at Husky Stadium for the away game at Washington that season, and they knew that it would be epic if they could get it done in the bowl at Michigan Stadium with 100,000 fans.

It took forever for people to catch on to the instructions to get it going at the stadium.  But once we did, it was a thing of beauty.

They started it out in the student section, but it kept fizzling out in the rich old alumni blue hair section.  So the trick to get it working was to switch directions and have it go toward the visitors section.  That eventually worked.

Once we got the hang of it, we did it forwards and backwards and fast and slow and loud (and quiet when Bo stormed out on the field and waved his arms to quiet us down because the team could not hear the signals). Imagine that, we were so loud we interrupted the game.  Who said we can't be loud?

Pretty productive pep rally.

I went to a pep rally on campus the day before the 2002 Washington game (where Phil Brabbs kicked the game winner) it was open to everyone.  Not much, just a few speeches by some players and then Lloyd spoke.  The marching band played a couple songs but then had to hurry to practice.  It wasn't that long.  A very hot August day.  The next day at the big house, fans were passing out left and right from the heat during the game.  But thank you, Brabbs!   Miss two easy chip shots but then kick the game winner that looked like it would have been good from 60 yards.
