BetOnline ranks Michigan 5th in its odds for the final 4.

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Ohio St
4. Georgia
5. Michigan
6. Penn St
7. Wisconsin
8. Oklahoma
9. Florida St
10. Auburn
Obviously this is based on bettors perception as there is little chance Florida St will be in the Top 10 at the end of the season. Penn St probably won't be there either, as I expect they will have at least 3 losses, to Michigan, Michigan St, and Ohio St. Georgia probably won't be in the top 4 as they've lost so many players to graduation, and the draft.
And most of all, it looks like they have a lot resting on the Ohio St vs Michigan game, their #3 vs their #5.
Rename "CFP" instead of "Final 4" to clarify it's football, because I thought this was hoops and that ranking would've been a crime!
Now that I know it's football though, I think the opposite. I wish we could fly under the radar.
term Final 4 is always used in football too. But yo're right, to end cofusion I'll clarify.
all the time.
I'm sure you've heard it.
I think the point is basically that while it is a term used by several sports, the one that most people will think of when they see those two words together is Women's Lacrosse.
LOL!
LOL!
'Always' is a colloquialism. If I had said 'only' then I would need to change it.
what is the correct wording there?
And we embarrassed psu the year before they embarrassed us, so now it's our turn.
And we embarrassed Penn State 2 years ago. They lost a lot of talent and come to Ann Arbor. Michigan should win that game. As for the others it's wait and see. Wisconsin has to come to Ann Arbor but I think they'll have a very good team and MSU is always tough, especially in EL.
MSU could be our toughest game.
Then Wiscy.
I think we beat the bucs.
Ridiculous. The Game is always the toughest game.
Greg Frey is gone, and Pep Hamilton's role has been reduced (for lack of a better term). Ed Warinner and Jim McElwain are big steps up from last year. It's going to be different this year vs Penn St.
It looks more like the opposite may be true with Drevno's departure. A departure brought on by his unwillingness to cede OC duties.
He's just guessing. There hasn't been any info to suggest that Pep's role has been reduced. He kept the same title and McElwain didn't get an OC or associate title, nor did Warinner.
There was one of thje big name posters here, such as Brian, Seth, etc., don't remember which one, that said Jim McElwain is going to be "designing the offense each week". And from that design, the coaching staff is going to be calling plays.
That formerly was part of Pep Hamilton's job.

Pep was running the offense when he was asked.

when Pep Hamilton was asked about Jim McElwain saying that, he said it wasn't him, but the coaching staff that does, manily Jim Harbaugh.
The available evidence doesn't make it seem like his role was reduced

I've been looking for that article as I do remember there was a post about it. But this is not a modern blog. How can you find a post from 4 months ago
things should be different this year for Penn St.
because that matters a lot in terms of how close they'll be to what their offense was the previous two years.
Can't recall his name though but he was pretty good.

ceilings? It's reasonable to believe that Michigan has a very high ceiling, having addressed all of the major issues from last season.
If Patterson provides dynamic QB play, talented WRs improve due to experience and a dedicated top flight position coach and the changes to coaching the OL pay off, Michigan has a decent chance of being a top 4 team. If they don't, Wisconsin, PSU and MSU might all be better. Doesn't follow that they would be playoff caliber teams.
They graduated the one functional OT and now have none that are proven. That position is looking like a MAJOR problem. But yeah, literally every other position could potentially be top in the conference. Too bad OT is arguably the second most important position in football.
and must.
I actually thought that might be a reasonable prediction for basketball, but football? No.
so this makes sense from a betting market perspective.
And as other pointed out, the title is bad. Need to say "Michigan Football..." or CFP because Final 4 is a basketball term.

Final Four?
It's tough to get into the CFP as an SEC team, but Auburn seems to be underrated here. They had wins over the national championship game opponents last year and are returning their starting QB, Jarrett Stidham.
Also, where's the love for Washington? They return Jake Browning and will likely have an easy path through the PAC 12 (USC, UCLA, WSU all losing their starting QB's). In addition, Stanford's only two scholarship QB's are recovering from injury.
Auburn vs. Washington is going to be a great game. Another reason to look forward to September 1!
it's probably also the reason both teams are ranked lower than you might expect here. The loser is going to have a thin margin of error to make it.
