Polls before a team ever plays a game are just shit to get you listen to sports radio.  Basketball gloriously has a tournament at the end of the year to decide their champion.  Just enjoy the season!

I am rather anxious to see the Sagarin and Massey ratings, which probably won't be out for a bit, as I prefer the numbers which have some predictive value (although that's limited in the preseason as there is nothing but historic data in the calculation). That being said, the #23 seems consistent with some of the in-conference predictions only in that several folks had us as the 4th or 5th team in the conference - I see this as simply the expanded version of a similar prediction.

I'm not that surprised.  Honestly, I wouldn't have been surprised if UM hadn't been ranked.  They lost a lot from last year's team, plus there are lots of questions coming back.

Do you know why Keith Appling was still playing after the injury that prevented him from shooting? It was because they didn't have a single guard that could get the ball past half-court without turning it over. Appling and Gary Harris were exceptional defenders and they will not be able to replace them. Travis Trice is in for a frustrating year trying to protect the ball and create, not to mention defending other teams top options.

That would equate to about a 4 seed for a team thats solid at 1-3 but very young and/or inexperienced at 4 & 5. I think we'll realize pretty early how important Morgan was

this is a good ranking but why is OSU, MSU and nebraska higher then us? we should be around 15-15 IMO, but 23 isnt bad! just win games and prove them wrong! lets win the B1G! go blue

But as Beilein goes, you know we're going to progress throughout the season. . . And the idea that OSU and MSU are ranked higher, as Jalen would say, they're gonna be dawgs about it!

6-seed, 3rd or 4th place in the conference.

It's certianly okay to think we'll be better, but I think that's where everyone's expectations should be. It'll keep you from losing your shit when we lose to the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the conference after beating Wisconsin.

This team is going to have it's ups and down and I'm not sold LeVert is a true #1 rather than an amazing #2 option. Regardless, it's a solid team and it's coached by the best coach in the country - meaning it's going to get better.

But some of you in all of your "in Beilein I trust" meme are setting yourselves up for failure. Duke, UNC, UK, MSU, UCLA, etc. have all had down years...and recently. If Michigan has a down year and it's a 3rd place, 6-seed or 4th place, 7-seed...we should all sit back, relax, and smile.

6-11 is becoming that way too.

I personally think we'd be a very dangerous 7, 8 or 9 seed.

Beilein's teams get better throughout the season (unlike another sport we know). We may be a 7 or 8 seed based on early in the year or a mid-season slump, but we're usually playing good ball late in the year.

If we get put in the right region, I think that's an easy #7 over #2 or even #8 over #1. I shouldn't say easy, because those are never easy...but if I had to pick an upset, Michigan would be the easy choice in that scenario.

People get all offended when I say things like that, but a season is long and we've got a brand new team in brand new roles.

If we're a hot #7 seed, look out. Wanna know who was a #7 last year? UCONN! Yea, they won it all.

#10 Stanford also beat #2 Kansas, UConn beat #2 Villanova and obviously UK beat Wichita St.

That's a dangerous spot to be in as a higher seed. You're playing a great team that was underwhelming or a underrated team that got hot late.

I don't think if we finished 4th or 5th in the conference, won the B1G tournament, and upset a #1 or #2 seed in route to the Sweet 16 that anyone would call that a disappointing year.

Again, if THIS is now our bad year? Sit back, tip your cap and smile. I'll take this being a down year. If it means 4th/5th in the league and Sweet 16/Round of 32 type year.

Especially knowing that we'd likely only lose LeVert. '15-'16 should see another top 10 year if that were to happen.

IMO its the same reason Sparty is fighting for respect in football. They've been the powerhouse longer which will tend to give them the higher ranking preseason with similar talent. (albeit I think we have more talent.) but let them play and it will sort itself out I'm not worried about who's ranked where preseason.
