Michigan Basketball 2014 Favorite Moments

My top 3 are:

1. Second win over MSU

2. Win over Illinois

3. Win at Wisconsin

I picked the second game vs MSU over the Illinois game because it gave the team the season sweep and it propelled us to the first place spot. The Illinois win was for obvious reasons and I picked the win at Wisconsin because it gave us the first major win of the season and should how good this team was.

Great season for the team. It was unbeleivable watching them play this year. If you would have told me on December 15th, that we would win the B1G 10 Championship by 3 games and go to the Elite Eight, I would not have beleived you.

Sweeping state en route to a B1G Championship.

The night they clinched the title against minnesota was one of celebration for me. Them winning it outright was just icing on the cake. A championship is a championship.

Also great seeing Morgan teary eyed hoisting the B1G Championship trophy after a win over Flanders and his candy striped bunch.

The win over wisconsin on the road was just incredible. The home win over iowa to make it two straight top-10 wins was when I was thinking "this year could be special" and when they won up at state was when I knew this would be a special year.

What a way to turn things around after a rough start and losing a preseason All-American. Not to mention two first round NBA draft picks.

How many teams can claim they lost three from their starting 5 that got them to the Final Four the year prior, and still dominate their conference and make another deep run in the NCAAs? I love this team. Can't wait for next season.

Nik's deep 3 to end the first half against Illinois right after the U-S-A chants. For some reason that was just deeply satisfying

Bombing them from 3 was highly enjoyable as well

The Stauskas step back three against Wisconsin... Start of a turn around to the season... and surprisingly the Nebraska win because without either of these, the season has a very different dynamic.  Either way, it was one hell of a season.

My top 3:

1. End of the game key plays during the two wins against state: Stauskas hiting a 3 followed by Walton's And-1 to pull away at Breslin, and then Caris' transition dunk to put away the game at Crisler.

2. Stauskas cold blooded step back 3 against Wisconsin at the end of the win

3. JMo playing Stokes man up and drawing the charge.

I loved last years run, but in some senses this year was a lot more fun to watch. We just watched one of the most efficient offenses ever with GRIII, Stauskas and Levert probably playing together for the last time. What's crazy is these guys were all in the same class - Imagine if they stayed til their senior seasons - records would be demolished as we compete for championships year after year.  Beilein is truly a wizard to get our program back to where it's at right now. So proud of this team and I'm not ready to look ahead to next year and the uncertainties at this point - it's time to appreciate what this team has done these past few months and how lucky we are as fans to have this team to root for. Go Blue!

1) Win at Minnesota to open B1G play

2) Win at MSU, came back from behind at Breslin, was awesome

3) Win in Columbus for first time in forever

honorable mention - banner raising!

1) Stauskas blowing kisses to the Breslin crowd after a resounding victory on their court.

2) Beating Sparty (again) on our court to complete the sweep.

3) Beating OSU on their court and watching Craft throw up air balls.

4) Exorcising our Kohl Center demons and beating Wiscy on their court. We were the definition of road warriors this season.

5) Knowing after the Kentucky game that even though our season had ended, and that there would be a good chance we would lose Stauskas, Robinson and McGary, that Beilein will have this team primed and ready to go come next season.

I can't wait to see the further development of Walton, Irvin, and LeVert, and our freshmen coming in. Beilein has proven to be top of the line when it comes to player development, and whoever rounds out our starting five next fall, Beilein will make them a force to be reckoned with. We couldn't ask any more of any of the players or the coaches for all of their accomplishments over the past two years. I know there will be return trips to the Final Four in our future.

....the ensuing celebration and "And 1" demonstration after was oh so sweet!  Stauskas, Horford and Robinson stepping over Trice to celebrate with Walton was beautiful.

being on hand to see them win at Breslin.  Don't think I'll ever forget my stunned reaction when Stauskus hit that 3 late and it was apparent we were going to win.

Winning the Big 10 outright by 3 full gosh damn games.  Amazing.

The offensive climax in the first half against Tennessee was the highest I was at any point this year. Just lethal, attacking basketball.

everytime stauskus took the handoff at the top of the key where he would either drive or launch a 3. hell of a play to run. reminded me of denard running the read offense.

he was a ton of fun to watch play basketball. smart, competitive, skilled, just the right amount of swagger.

its more fun seeing the less heralded recruits blow up.

Maybe this is a little stupid because it's so recent, but the effort on our last true offensive possession today (with all of the offensive rebounds before the tip-in to tie it) will be up there for me.  Seeing LeVert, in particular, dive to keep that play alive firmed up my sense that those guys left it all out there today.

I'm proud to be a Michigan fan right now.

our favorite loss this season?  Arizona would be ok in retrospect but the McGary surgery announcement and being 6-4 made me think we might miss the tourney unless we could go above .500 in conference play with a couple signature wins.
