Michigan Baseball Tournament Update

Submitted by umhero on June 2nd, 2019 at 2:31 AM

Michigan beat Cincinnati in the Regionals Round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament last night 10-6. We remain undefeated. The first round is a Double Elimination round. Sunday Cincinnati will play Creighton at 3:00 ET. Each has one loss. The winner will play Michigan at 9:00 ET. If Michigan wins they will move on; a loss will have the same teams play again on Monday night.

The Super Regionals Round will be played Friday, June 7-Monday, June 10 against the winner of the Los Angeles Bracket.

In the Los Angeles Bracket Loyola Marymount upset number ranked UCLA tonight 3-2. That means one loss UCLA will play one loss Baylor Sunday afternoon for the chance to play undefeated Loyola Marymount in the evening. If Loyola wins they will move on; a loss will have the same teams play again on Monday night.

Michigan would prefer to play Loyola Marymount in the next round since UCLA is ranked number 1 in the country, Baylor is 21st, and Loyola is unranked.

So Sunday at 9:00 ET root for Michigan and Loyola.

This is getting way ahead here...but any chance Uofm could host next round ? That would be amazing. Not sure how’s it would be decided between Uofm and Loyola.

EDIT: all I can find is that Michigan and Loyola would “bid” I host. Not sure if it’s simply buying the game ? If so I like our odds to win the bid.

Hmmm. I know the announcers during the Michigan vs. Cincinnati said something about Loyola perhaps hosting... in passing..  They would be the higher seed..... and YES, we are getting WAY ahead of ourselves!  We must not look ahead!  ; )

GO BLUE!!!

Win the Game!

So reading through the wikipedia page on the tournament, if UCLA wins, it's definitely in LA.

It's unclear to me who would host if that's not the case. The wikipedia page says "If the two seeds are not national seeds, the Super Regional will be bid upon by the two competing teams," which would be the scenario if Loyola Maramount and Michigan were to advance.

Since Loyola Maramount is in LA, either way that means if Michigan advances, the super regional will be in LA or Ann Arbor.

As an LA resident, for me that's a win-win. I'll definitely go (and if the 2018 NCAA basketball regional final is any indication, many others too) if it's in LA and if it's in AA that's a big advantage for the team too.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference but Michigan was one of the last teams to make it into the tournament, sort of like basketball's equivalent of "Last 4 In" but I'm not sure if its last 4 or last 6 or something else.

If rank matters then it looks like the next round would be in LA no matter what.

Wolverines don't care who we play. Anyone, any time, anywhere. Already beat UCLA once this year. 7-5 on March 8.

Final score against Cinci was 10-4, not 10-6.

If Michigan and UCLA win, the regional is at UCLA.

If Michigan and Baylor win, the regional is at Baylor.

If Michigan and LMU win, the NCAA will select a host (assuming they both place bids to host) based on these criteria:  "quality and availability of the facility, revenue potential, and other available accommodations."

LMU's stadium seats 600, according to their website.  Fisher is at least 3 times that size.  But who knows if Michigan has submitted a bid to host.  Also, LMU could submit a bid to host in a nicer off-campus facility, one that will beat out Michigan's bid.

And yes, we are getting ahead of ourselves.  Michigan still has a game to win.

Duke, Florida State, Michigan and TCU were the last four teams into the NCAA Tournament. So far, they’ve posted a combined 7-1 record with TCU having the only loss to fifth national seed Arkansas. LINK

I hung my flag from my balcony and lit it up last night, but still had to change my shirt and take off my M baseball cap for us to bounce back from the 6th.

Said shirt is already set aside for tonight and there will no baseball cap tonight.  I forgot and put my cap back on last night only to realize a second later that to my horror, I might be dooming the team!  Took if off in a hot second...

How about the pitching for the Wolverines! Criswell with a little burp in the 5th but solid! We’ve got Tommy ready to go tonight I presume and we’ve been able to rest the bullpen for the most part. Weiss also was excellent! We are sitting pretty but can’t get ahead of ourselves. Also, some of our backups have been showing strong as they’ve needed to with our injuries. Go Blue!

Will tonight's game be televised?  My DirecTV channel guide shows a 9 pm TBA on ESPNU.

OTOH, the UCLA vs Baylor game at 3 pm is scheduled to be televised at 3 pm.  Other than that time slot, all other College World Series games on the various ESPNs show "TBA".

If I remember the rule correctly we will be the home team tonight.  The home team is decided by who has played fewer games as the home team in the regional (followed by a coin flip if its a tie).  Creighton and Cincinnati have both been the home team (against us), since we have not been the home team yet, we get the honor.  But I could be mistaken...

Outstanding so far Blue.

Freshman ss went 4 for 4 last nite and rf Bullock homered in first game replacing Big 10 mvp Brewer. Really good coaching thus far by the fired Bakich.

Got to think Henry gets the start tonite.

Go Blue.

One game at a time.  The softball team was sitting 2-0 waiting to play the winner of the loser’s bracket, and needed to win one out of two to advance.  That didn’t work out too well.

Michigan has really been able to save the bull pen. Hope that becomes an advantage in the game tonight.

Can anyone please let me know if I can sit it front of a TV in Michigan somewhere and watch tonight's game? And if so, what channel?

I don't want to watch on my phone or view a GameCast!

Every listing I've looked up says UCLA plays on ESPN3 at 9pm, and also the Michigan plays on ESPN3 at 9pm.
