Michigan Baseball opens their season this weekend in Arlington, TX

My husband and I planned a trip to Dallas this weekend for a little barbecue and a little baseball. Friday night we open against Texas Tech. It looks like it's going be a little chilly  -- we'll see if those Texans have the fortitude to last 9 innings.

Have any insight on how the team is looking this year? I haven’t heard much at all outside of the Wolverines having the B1G’s highest ranked draft prospect.

It was great seeing them out practicing on Friday night in Ray Fisher Stadium, right before the hockey game. They won't be afraid of the Texas "cold." 50° for first pitch, will be nice.

I played at Texas Arlington one season before the Big Ten season started. It was way too cold. I remember being so mad that we traveled to Texas to play and we were in sleeves and jackets, freezing the whole time.

Speaking of playing Texas Tech, in one of those games my coach once taunted them because he thought our pitcher induced an inning ending fly out. The ball made it over the fence for a 3-run hr and we didn’t hear the end of it.

After looking at the weather, I feel like those of us still in the north need to talk about what "chilly" means with you folks in the south.  The weather forecast in Dallas calls for shorts and a t-shirt Friday ?

In return, this summer, y'all can have a conversation with us about what "warm" means.

The games are being played at the Texas Ranger’s new ballpark which has a retractable roof so I expect the roof will be closed and chilly weather won’t be an issue.

Welcome to DFW! I'm biased, but Fort Worth is the better side of the metroplex. It has more of the "western" vibe going. Dallas is indistinguishable from any other cosmopolitan city. It most reminds me of Atlanta.

Heim is good and easily available. Also in the Fort Worth area are Goldee's and Panther City BBQ. Goldee's was just rated #1 in Texas by Texas Monthly, and Panther City is in the top 10. The Texas Monthly rankings are a big deal here, so you might check those places out.

I lived in Dallas in the early 80's -- high school. Was back there 5 or 6 years ago for a reunion, but I don't know anything about the restaurant scene anymore. We went to a place in Austin called Terry Black's for bbq a few years ago and it was good. I saw they opened a Dallas outpost so we may try there. We're staying in Arlington which, from all appearances, seems a little mall-like, like all the restaurants are chains but maybe I need to dig a little deeper.
