Hartford? The whale? They beat Vancouver once, maybe twice a lifetime.

Black Friar is hosting the Dallas AAUM's "preparty" Friday night so there will be plenty of maize and blue comrades there, but Black Friar isn't really a sports bar. Your other options for real sports bars in the area are Christie's, McKinney Avenue Tavern, or Frankie's which are all along McKinney Avenue. The Nodding Donkey is the one across from the Londoner that one of the other commenters was trying to remember, which is also serviceable.

Yeah, you're not quite walking distance from Uptown, but you're in a good spot close to where I've lived for the past 4+ years. There's a ton of bars around McKinney Ave in Uptown, with my personal favorites being Gingerman (huge beer selection), Quarter Bar, and The Loon (strongest drinks in Dallas). You're also very close to the Knox/Henderson area that has some great restaurants like The Porch, Victor Tangos, Velvet Taco, and Hibiscus.
Deep Ellum is a interesting spot and is in the midst of a resurgence after being a pretty sketchy area in the past. There's a ton of local music and good foot options all close to each other include Twisted Root, Serious Pizza, Adair's, and Angry Dog.
IHMO, downtown doesn't have much to offer. The bars tend to be more spaced out and a lot of the places in downtown are upscale clubs, but maybe that's your thing. Hope this helps a bit. Enjoy.

Wow, I just got his with a wave of nostalgia seeing the pictures on that site of Al, Dave, Lars, and Scott. It’s a shame they’re tearing up a place where I made countless friendships with locals, students, professors, and the occasional Michigan hockey player when I was there from 2002 to 2006.
If we’re going to be playing MANBALL this fall, can’t the MMB man up as well and march on pavement, their knees be damned?

I'm deeply saddened some MGOReaders don't get the reference. Rookies need to give The Smiths catalog a listen before posting.

As a current SMU grad student (and UofM undergrad) I coudn't be more excited to see this. Going to the football games this year it's hard to believe a school like SMU that has a total undergraduate population of 6000 could field a team that legitimately competed for a national championship, especially in an era where the big boys were so dominant. It's hard to argue James and Dickerson don't have plausible deniability but equally hard to believe they were completely clean or unaware. I'm interested to see if they highlight the somewhat unique situation SMU is in as a school with located in a large city with a lot of people that might fall into the nouveau riche catagory due to the oil money in the area.
