META: What will it take to eliminate these server issues?

I've never seen any other website crash like this.  This is every time we have something big happen (for good or bad).   On days like this it's such a buzzkill when you want to discuss a great win and the server constantly crashes.

How can MGoBlog get a functional server?  If it's a cost issue, can we users try to chip in?

I dont know, but I’m cheap as eff, and I’m still good for $5 to fix it on game days.

Dad and I are still in blissful disbelief. The man never took a shot in his life but he joined me just now. Go blue!

A service that automagically expands servers as demand grows is expensive - especially on the database side.  And this (well, all) message board is DB intensive.  I don't think they make much money off the message board, so its probably not worth the expense.  I know they use some mitigation tools, like Cloudflare, but when you need to expand service as demand grows like today, they aren't quite adequate.

Servers are waaaaaaay better than they used to be.

Hiw many stand alone independent websites that gets this kind of traffic do you frequent?  This isn’t like MaizeNBrew who have Vox running their infrastructure

I had to go to fucking 11 Warriors to read about the Michigan - Ohio State game when it was over.

Their site worked just fine.  And you usually have the highest volume on a site after a loss because everybody wants to rant about it.

Meanwhile after our greatest win this century, MGoBlog was frozen solid.

If the Michigan football team can outperform Ohio State, then MGoBlog should be able to outperform freaking 11 Warriors.
