Meta: going to mgoblog on mobile pulls up twitter first

Submitted by NashvilleBLUE on March 1st, 2020 at 12:46 PM

I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this. When I am on mobile and I go to this site from any other site, it temporarily pulls up Twitter for a half second before directing me to mgoblog. Does anyone else have this happen? It is only with this website.

I was thinking there should be a front page post addressing some of the sites issues and plans to resolve them. Can’t edit OPs, points don’t work, etc.

I know it’s been stated that the front page drives content and the board doesn’t matter but my suspicion is that most people are just using the home page as a way to refresh the board, which inflated the metrics. Lately, front page posts that are not game recaps have less than 50 comments.

I'm pretty sure site traffic trackers are smart enough not to give 2 views simply for refreshing the page. Because ad revenue is based on that stuff. The front page stories never have gotten that many comments. There are so many people who never make accounts or just never/barely post.

But yes, basic functionality would be nice. Still the most annoying thing to me is that I get sent to the last comment page every time I make a comment.

Never seen that problem and I access from mobile all the time.

I don’t think as poorly of the redesign as others; I like the site fine. There are a couple of things that it does well or better, and a couple of things missing.

But things haven’t changed in a while. We may speculate as to why; I have two significant questions: 1. Have improvements been deferred because they cost too much? 2. Have improvements been deferred because HUEL has been working on other projects, such as, say, an app for the Iowa Caucuses?

I visit this site exclusively on mobile. I have never once had what you described happen. The mobile site is clean and easy to handle and read in the palm of my hands.

The ONLY issue I ever have is going back to edit text before submitting a post/comment. For some reason, this often makes the editor jump to another spot and add/delete text from a completely different location than where my cursor was.

Other than that, I think the site issues are way overblown on the board. I practically never encounter a problem.

I’m still amazed that mobile is still this bad. It’s literally the worst mobile message board I visit. This is including one about a specific grill I own. So, how’s that app coming along that everyone said they would pay whatever amount they wanted to charge?
