Meta: Embedding for idiots, please?

It's off-season and all, and pending a much-hoped-for upgrade to this web site full of great content but powered by anemic hamsters that speak only Latin, I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to post a short primer on how to embed jpegs, gifs, and youtube videos in posts for us unwashed masses who haven't figured it out.

Pretty please?

Well I'll be damned, it finally worked. For anyone in my category, where the drag/drop trick doesn't work, I had to paste the full IMG href code in the plain text editor.

The last time I used a forum program that let me enter real HTML like that it was about 1999, the software was Matt's WWWBoard, and it was called a "BBS".
