MBB Rankings Update for 12/30
Rankings are out per tweet from the program.
UM is 12 in the AP (down 1 from last week) and 13 in the coaches poll (up from 15).
Short and simple.

The difference between us at #12 and Butler at #11 is 3 votes so we're basically tied. Also happy to see Lavall being successful

And they deserve to be ahead of M. Gotta give Jordan a ton of credit. After a collapse last season it looked like his was a classic case of a solid first season with the previous coaches guys and then falling off a cliff. This turnaround is impressive.

Exactly where they should be ranked. These next 5 games are key. 3 road games and 2 home games. Go 4-1 and that would be amazing. 3-2 would be fine too but anything less would probably push us back in the big ten standings for the regular season championship

A lot of that will depend on Livers health. If he comes back soon I can see 4-1 in this stretch.

He’s not coming back for this stretch. Out indefinitely means he’s out for a few weeks and then gets re-evaluated to see how’s he healing and build a timeframe from that re-evaluation. It’s probably a situation where surgery is on the table but they want to avoid it. This is a bad injury and is more likely for it to be 2 months than 2 weeks

Yeah, Coach Howard was saying that he was praying that Livers would be back this year... that seems to be more than a few weeks,

If that is true then expectations should be adjusted accordingly. I see a 10-8 finish to the regular season unless Livers comes back by early February. We lost @Illinois with Livers. The only road games I'm confident with is @Rutgers, @NW and @Nebraska. Can be 12-6 if Livers comes back a little earlier.

I thought 10-8 was a good possibility before Livers got hurt. Very few road games will be winnable.

Also relevant, #17 in NET.

I have us...
L, W, L, W, W, W, W, W, Split/Split, W, W, Split/Split, Split/Split, W, L.
That's a finish of 12-6.
22-9 at the end if the regular season. A likely #4 or #5 seed in the B1G Tournament.
Win the B1G tournament and end up with a #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Lose in semifinals a #5 seed.
Lose before the semis...#6 in the NCAAs.
....discuss.

Itd be ironic to have Howard's first team in the tournament as a 6 seed. Shock the world!

This would actually be wonderful!

It looks like there are somewhere from 3-7 losses in the rest of the schedule. I have no idea what will actually happen, but here is my prediction assuming they make the weekend in the conference tourny:
21-10: 6 seed
22-9: 5 seed
23-8: 4 seed
24-7: 3 seed
25-6: 2 seed, 1 seed if M is B1G champ
26-5 or better: 1 seed

My only differences really was I dont have us beating Iowa on the road and have us losing to Ohio St and MSU both at home. All of this is if Livers is gone for that time frame. If hes back for some of these as I poster above, I can see 12-6 rest of the way.

Don’t forget the committee takes into account injuries so if Livers comes back and we suddenly look like November Michigan again that could be worth one or two seed lines.
That or a higher seed is going to be miffed to see us as an opponent.
