Massillon ('13 commit Gareon Conley) vs Buchtel on FSN+

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Didn't see it posted, but there will be a Michigan Football preview on in a little over 30 minutes on FSN-Detroit at 7pm.

EDIT: Now that the Michigan Preview is over, 2013 commit Gareon Conley of Massillon is playing Akron Buchtel on FSN+. It is the national HS football game of the week.

Ricky Powers is the coach of Buchtel by the way.

I mentioned this in a different thread but here seems more fitting. 2013 CB commit Gareon Conley will be on FSD alternative @7:30. Massillon vs Akron Buchtel.

I have a bit of a different take.  He's been kind of a non-factor of D so far.  I've counted two tackes, one solo on which I thought he could have challanged up to the line better.  Although he did shed his blocker and may have saved a TD even though the tackle was 10 yards downfield.  I suppose he's playing well in pass coverage because they haven't thrown a single pass his way, and only even given one or two looks on his side of the field.  But he is doing very well on O.

I like how before the snap, you could hear the coach yelling "watch the wheel!".  And what route did they try and throw?  The wheel.  Massilon had that scouted cold.  Conley has been locking up the outside receiver man-to-man all night, except for that play where he hands off the outside receiver to the safety and jumps on the wheel route.  Pretty impressive stuff.

This isn't really typical of football in Ohio, just for anyone who's wondering. Massillon is probably one of the 5 most fanatical high school football towns in the nation, and their facilities reflect it. Most stadiums are scaled down a lot.

That's not to say it doesn't get taken seriously here though, all it does is take one threat to football programs, and Ohio district levies get passed real fast.
