Mark Ingram

Mark Ingram is having a monster game for Alabama....looks like could be a Heisman type player sometime in his career. I love to see boys from Michigan do well, even though I shudder because I think that we should be getting all the real studs in-state. In any case, I'm happy he doesn't play for MSU. I know he's an MSU legacy and it came down to him de-committing from Sparty to go play for a real program, Alabama....but.... Were we ever in it for him in the recruiting battle? It would be great to have him, he's great!

He grew up disliking UM. His Dad was a Spartan, always tight with Saban. Most of his friends were Spartans. I was kinda surprised he was not a lock there. HIs Dad had some problems in EL, among other places. I suspect he was a silent commit to Saban and Bama very early, Blank Slate Fresh Start kinda thing. He did play Senior Year for former UM QB Gary Lee, at Flint SW. (Lee is now Saginaw High Head Coach)

Not to name drop, but I played basketball and football against Ingram in junior high school at Grand Blanc (I played at Flushing), and my friends and I always knew he would be great; he was build like a man then, with arms that were probably literally the size of my thighs, and athleticism to match. I never imagined he'd be a Heisman frontrunner someday though.

He may be a serious Heisman candidate next year, if it wasn't for McCoy and Tebow maybe this year. I belive his father took him down to Bama and was recruited by Bobby Williams (who probably also recruited dad to MSU). I think Bama just wowed him over........(the sinister side of me of course believes that well to do Bama alums had $omething to do with it.) I am glad he's not at MSU, but doubt he'd be quite this good at MSU either.

The story I heard from an inside source is that his mom actually loved Saban and thats how he ended up at Alabama. Apparently when dad had his numerous Run-ins with the law and whatnot in the past, Saban would always be there to help him out, mom never forgot this and pushed hard (along with dad) to send him to 'Bama Thus it was more a Saban thing with the parents than anything else that won him over... If 'Bama runs the table and neither Tebow nor McCoy does enough to distinguish himself, Ingram might be a great "dark horse" candidate. I know that Heisman politics are usually against Sophomores, but Tim Tebow broke through that wall a couple of years ago. I think 'Bama and Ingram have a chance to at least make it interesting with some more high-profile performances.
