The Maize N' Blue Is Now Buckled Up And Ready To Go....Almost Literally (seriously, check out the map) - Risk Day 10

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on April 1st, 2020 at 11:29 AM

What a weird looking map. Another round in and we now have territories that form a visual buckle from Ann Arbor to Tempe. On the one hand, this looks very cool. On the other, we're pretty much exposed on all sides. Meanwhile, Wisconsin has the North on lock, TAM owns all of Texas and Louisiana, GT has the Florida Peninsula, and OSU has a death grip on the Northeast.

So what does this mean? Well, if I've said it before and I'll say it again, WE NEED MORE POWER. We are very vulnerable and while we have a plan, we need numbers to make sure we can execute the plan before the Scarlet & Gray consumes everything east of the Mississippi.

Seriously, look at the Northeast. It's absolutely filthy. Ewwww.

How Does the Game Work?

On turn 1, each team starts with their home territory. It is up to each team to recruit players and coordinate moves. You can choose to defend any territory that your team currently holds or attack any adjacent territory. A "roll" happens each evening at 11 PM EST to calculate which teams have won which territories that turn based on the moves that were made by individual players. The ultimate goal is to conquer as much of the map as possible for your team. There are a number of different ways to do this, such as through recruiting players in sheer numbers or forming alliances with other teams.

Steps To Play Every Day:

  1. Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already
  2. Visit collegefootballrisk.com – Click Sign in with Reddit – Select Michigan as your team
  3. Visit https://michigancfbrisk.com/ - click “Login using Reddit” – Click “Get an Assignment”
  4. Return to collegefootballrisk.com – Scroll to the bottom of the page and execute your assignment (Note: Simply clicking action so that it becomes highlighted gray confirms the move. There’s no submit or confirm button needed)

Haven't played but from a pure strategy standpoint its pretty clear Wisconsin is about to break the alliance and Michigan is more or less done. Should probably just give up Michigan and the midwest and concentrate on getting the west coast locked down to avoid have four fronts. Good luck though

Michigan is actually in a pretty good position. We have a huge number of territories that we can attack making it very difficult to defend against us. We have Wisconsin right above us and Oklahoma below us. Even if Wisconsin betrayed us and banded up with Oklahoma, their combined star power is still lower than ours. The first turn might hurt a bit, but we would recover just fine.

I don't play, but yeah that's a bad map for M. M needs to either make a strong front in the mitten to hold off OSU while W heads west -or- M heads west  and takes the Pac12 states while Wisc holds off OSU in the mitten.

The Northeast is the key - very isolated and easy to defend and subsequently expanded from there.

Yeah as someone who loves risk, I really don't get the strategy when it involves being open to attack on every territory you possess. OSUs plan makes much more sense, or whoever controls Florida. Much better to concentrate on a smaller front and not infinitely divide forces.

Going west is fine, there's not a lot of 'armies' there and you can seal it off with a line from Montana to New Mexico. And Alaska/Hawaii I guess, looks like a weird quirk that you can get to Alaska from New England and Hawaii from Miami.

I'm guessing UM/UW will want to overwhelm Nebraska and Stanford the next few turns, ignore Team Chaos, while pestering OSU.

Whats everyone's winning percentage on territories that they have played? Right now I'm 6-3 at either keeping a territory that we already own or occupying a new territory that i'm attacking. I've lost out on defending Michigan State on day two (barf, i'm glad we lost), attacking Memphis on day five and attacking Louisville on day 7 (Notre Dame had the luck of the Irish here winning with a 14pct chance, its ok though they were wiped off the map the next day).

Fuck it, why not?  Have always been curious and April's looking pretty damn wide open.  Just joined reddit and discord and have never played risk, so we'll see how this goes....
