Yes, I followed on twitter - great to see that they had a good start. However, I am incredibly uneasy on their next opponent - Arizona State. They will be hungry after having their season canceled last year due to conduct embarrassing to the university. They are a bunch of good guys after having met the team in Dallas a couple of years ago, so I know they will be hungry to prove themselves. Michigan has a hard schedule coming up as they play three teams ranked in the top 5 as their next three games - Arizona State and BYU on the road and then coming home to play Simon Fraser. Good luck.

This is what i love about Michigan lacrosse. Coach John Paul is never satisfied with just winning, he always is looking to beat the best. As Tim pointed out in his preview, Michigan plays the preseason # 23, 3, 5, 4, 11, 7, 9, 10, and 12. The only one of these games that is a conference game is the last one against Michigan State. It shows that Michigan is determined to show their value as a program to the rest of the country, rather than just beating up on some cupcakes for their out of conference games. Do have a question, has anyone heard a time frame for the program to go NCAA D-I? I know their web site provides the BS answer, but i was not sure if there were any rumors floating around about this.

Ohio Wesleyan is a middling DIII team. Let's be realistic here! If Michigan played DI right now with their roster, they would be cannon fodder. I would love to see all of the teams in Big Ten build DI lax programs, because it is an awesome game. There is great flow, lots of offense and a ton of hitting. Beyond that, it would be a great excuse to tailgate in the spring! The problem is that athletic departments are cutting costs left and right now, and teams would have to add a women's program in lax to comply with title IX.

Let's not forget that Michigan dominated Bellarmine in a pre-season scrimmage earlier this year. That same Bellarmine program lost to Maryland by a score of 12-7 about a week ago. As everyone knows, Maryland is a perennial contender for the National Championship in Div. I and is currently ranked in the top ten (#7 I believe). Adding scholarships would obviously only improve the program, which (vicariously) compares fairly well against the Div. I big dogs already.

What is the status of Big Ten lax? Is the situation similar to hockey, where there isn't really Big Ten? As lax becomes more prevalent, will there begin to be Big Ten conference lax, or will programs join other existing leagues and conferences?

There is no Big 10 for lacrosse. Michigan plays in the CCLA with many other teams from the state (MSU, WMU, CMU, EMU, OU etc.) and a few from outside it (Miami OH, Buffalo). Most (and maybe all) teams in the Big 10 have club/Div. 1 programs but are in different leagues. If enough of them went to NCAA status, I'd think a Big 10 might happen.
