M Basketball team launches NIL club
Your chance to help support the team. The monthly goal seems a little modest?
AWESOME!
A side to this, but NIL related: my son's former college baseball teammate is now at Maryland, playing his fifth Covid year. If you go to their roster, each player has a little $ sign on his individual page. You can click on the $ and it takes you to a menu of ways you can give the player NIL money. We thought it would be funny to ask him to make a birthday video for my son (even though they're very close friends) and we'd chip in some NIL money to him. The cost? $11. Yes, eleven dollars. I think he can make $75 if he makes an appearance for you at your business or organization. Not exactly football NIL money. Their NIL page is sort of like an ad for the player. It has a little bio and his likes and dislikes, etc....I checked to see if Michigan baseball has this but they don't.
Thanks for sharing Wk5. I've been curious how other sports and schools do NIL. This is pretty cool and a nice way to help support the kids.
Hunter, is it too late? Asking for a fanbase.
It says 1 active member and it's at 10 dollars. Then I click the button and it said most people pick 50 dollars. I hope this takes off but as of rn it's embarrassing.
Can we launch the last basketball NIL club...
off a very tall wall?
I wish NIL was actual NIL paid for from our athletic departments TV revenue. It wouldnt take much to make all of our sports leaders and best.
Boosters paying the bill with a $100mil surplus while we hire our 37th administration position is ridiculous.
Be leaders and best and "AWARD" the kids NIL money at seasons/year end and let the NCAA try to get that money back or penalize. Someone is going to do exactly that and dominate recruiting for several years. No more pay to play or pay to stay pay them kids their damn NIL money.
Maybe they should start a "get past admissions" club.
Exactly (((rolls eyes)))
My thought exactly! What’s the point of NIL if we can’t even get the players we want through admissions.
Formally called the “Hunter Dickinson Memorial Oh Shit Fund”.
I’ll give 8 Chiclets and an old tissue in from my car to any player who can pass admissions
Money cannon. Money pea shooter
Isn't this a little late?
This needed to happen BEFORE dickinson entered the portal.
With one thing after another, asking for money now is wishful thinking.
It would be different if we had won back 2 back B10 titles and made it to the final 4 both yrs then decided to let one of our best players walk.
It just seemed awkward when after another disappointing regular season and a embarrassing post season that Dickinson wanted us to back up the Brinks truck.
IDK. Bring on football.
Little too late now...not happening for me. I emptied my wallet for the "one more year" football collective, If we can't NIL Hunter, & can't admit top transfers...no fucking thanks. This basketball team will be lucky to get to the NIT even if Terence Williams finally learns how to inbound a ball.
NIL is a major s-show.
This NIL Club thing seems like the beggar standing on the corner of Woodward and 13 mile with his cardboard sign.
The college presidents need to get a handle on this. I am all in favor of athletes in revenue sports sharing in the massive revenue dollars that are coming into NCAA sports via tournament money and TV contracts. But it should have been done in a way that it is equitable for all teams who are playing at the same level.
Do we really want a situation where schools with wealthy sports fan alumni simply donates $10 million (or whatever) to the team "NIL Club"?
And just wait until the Hunter Dickisons demand more of the club money than the backups.
Seems like the NIL "fun" is just starting.
So $75000 instead of $70,000 ….
