Louis Bullock returns to Crisler Center

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

At least he's making the effort to come back even after the ban.

Interesting. Seems he's been welcomed back with open arms by the coaches at least.

I really don't understand why WD gets so much shit around here. He helped bring down DB and provides timely information on non-revenue sports. When I was younger and before MGoBlog existed, I kept volumes of media guides and spent a lot of time on other U of M forums too. What is wrong with that? Some people forget we support and are on the same team.

1. I have no idea why WD generates so much auto-hate.  Like you said - he does provide info on non-revenue sports, actually contributed to bringing down the great satan and loves Michigan like no one else.  All very good things IMO and he seems like a generally good guy.

2. Having said that I do think Benn = WD = Discuss Man.  The exchange between Benn & WD in Sticky is laugh out loud funny and the picture proof Benn provides actually solidified IMO the arguement that WD and Benn are one and the same.

3. Having said that I don't give two shits if Benn = WD = Discuss Man.  It's a fucking sports blog for God's sake.  Who fucking cares if he has 200 user names?

Huh?

You've seen my face before. He looks nothing like I do. If you actually visited the link and looked at both photos he posted, you'd see that.

There's one with just the paper and then the one when you click the right arrow to scroll the next photo, that one is featuring his face.

The Zapruder film it is not.....

Doesnt change what I wrote though.  I still think you're a good guy and I still find the whole thing more comical than troubling (unlike some people around here who it seems to really bother for some reason).

Anyways did I mention that I am Spartacus?

the lengths to which you are going are not helping. you look about the same age as whomever is in this picture and we can't rule out it's just one of your buddies helping you out.

yes you are right that the two people in these pictures are not the same, but that means nothing.

shame on me for even commenting twice about this issue tho. just relax and don't worry what others think. i just can't avoid a good conspiracy theory.

Okay, so just do nothing and let others think someone else's words are mine?

That's bullshit and I'm not gonna let it happen.

You sure have a lot of nerve accusing me of something that has already been proved wrong when you're on your 21st account after getting banned every month for being a troll, Olaf.

Do you guys know how fucking weird this is? You all are pathetic. You're talking about a high schoolers appearance on a blog. Think about that. WD is not me, I don't know why you won't accept that. But, you get your wish, and I am done with this shit. Reading this blog is informative and fun, but you people are pieces of trash. Screw you

Please don't leave. Now this diatribe is just going to be used against me even though you took a photo and already proved yourself.

This is so incredibly frustrating. I have no clue how this dumb meme even got started. Even with concrete proof, the usual crowd will deny it even though it's right in front of their face.

But don't leave. You're letting them win by leaving the site.

You've proven nothing and your concern that "others think someone else's words are mine" is chldish.  You cannot control what others think.  No matter how many times you stamp your feet and shout "I'm not gonna let it happen" you have no way to prevent it from happening.  All you do is feed the "the lady doth protesteth too much" impression.

I didn't think that you and Benn were the same person.  I still don't.  But every absurd length you and "Benn" go to to prove that those are not both of your accounts just moves me closer to believing that they are.

An innocent man wouldn't care so much.  Anyone here is free to claim that I am a sock of anyone they care to name.  I won't deny it.

What Louis Bullock did was selfish and immature and...very selfish. What Harbaugh said that pissed off Mike Hart, Brian, and many, many others? Neither selfish nor immature. (edit: this was meant as a rebuttal to what 'Benn' posted about forgiveness.

Another difference: Bullock was a kid, Harbaugh wasn't. Neither did much wrong IMO. Both were accused, both shouldn't have been. Harbaugh was upholding the Michigan standard, and yes, he was right, and Bullock was given illicit loans. We should be mad at Ed Martin, not Bullock

Bullock literally ignored posters in the Crisler locker room with Ed Martin's picture in them with the caption "do not associate with this man." The NCAA was in town and he was still taking money. And he came from a family that wasn't wanting. He was maybe the most egregious of all of them. Why should he be exempt from blame?

I respect Beilein, but I find it hard to believe he would overlook the fact that Lou Bullock's actions helped tank this program for well over a decade, a mess that Beilein himself had to help clean up well after the fact. They should know better.

Sorry if that's unpopular, but John Beilein, as much as I like the guy, wasn't here for the doldrums of this program after Ed Martin. It's hard to forget that.

I don't know if he talked to the team this time, maybe not -- but apparently last time he did, so this is my comment on that: Seems likely that Beilein would have Bullock there in order to say something about the scandal and his role in it. Hard to imagine that he would be given that kind of platform while ignoring "the elephant in the room" as it were. Posting from phone for first time. Apologies in advance if it goes awry.

The program tanked that long because the AD didn't give a shit about basketball. Indiana and OSU had sanctions and neither program was down for a decade because they hired Crean and Matta. Maybe if Martin hired Pitino instead of Amaker, things would've been different.

Also, let's not forget how long it took Bill Martin (we probably had the worst  facilities in the country during his tenure) to finally build a practice facility. Beilein had to beg to add more lights inside Crisler because it was like a dungeon in there.

I mean sanctions are no good for any program but to say they tanked the program is quite the stretch. 1 year of postseason ban and one lost scholarship for a few years is not enough to tank a program. Don't you think we got a lot of the receuits we did because of Ed Martin and Perry Watson? Once they were gone and we had Brian Ellerbe coaching us followed by Amaker we were doomed and it didnt help that we were playing in a crappy arena while MSU was playing in the new at the time Breslin Center.

But that doesn't mean he needs to continue to pay a price this long after the fact. Beilein has forgiven him- in fact, it's possible we would have never been blessed with Beilein without Bullock's mistake. I think it's reasonable to forgive someone after approximately 20 years for a youthful lapse of judgment.

When these players admit to taking money, assuming the "loans" are not repayed, do the feds make them pay tax on the money?  Serious question, especially for a guy like Webber who received in excess of 6 figures.

What never seems to be addressed on this board is the possibility that with that kind of money being thrown around, especially from a 'numbers' guy, how probable was it that points were shaved (or extra time-outs called).  We'll never know.

The short answer is it really all depends. They might pick him up if they think 1) there's enough income tax to make it a viable case or 2) it's a high profile case that could help 'send a message'. There's a lot of factors that go into it. he would just get a bill from Uncle Sam based on an NCAA investigation. Sorry for the lack of response, I'm on mobile...

I could be wrong, but I think loans are not income and are therefore not taxed. If you bought something with the loan, you'd pay the tax on the item (like sales tax on a car). Now, you can get cash gifts from people of money up to a certain amount (14k currently) and there's no tax. Above that amount there's a tax, but you could get around that with 3rd parties I'd guess.

So just because you call your self a numbers guy and some players might have taken money that means we shaved points too? Tell me, as a numbers guy, what numbers draw you to this conclusion?

However debt forgiveness is taxed- as it is a source of income. Income is taxed "from whatever source derived" according to the Code. If canceled loans were not taxed, it would leave a huge loophole.
