Warde had a beloved coach with tremendous (shout out Lloyd!) on the court success, who effectively has tenure, and zero questions about integrity win the slimy world of college hoops.  He interviews for an NBA job and then despite a year to address the situation Warde can't figure out a way to retain him. Maybe in Warde's control, maybe not.

Then, despite the fact that Warde knew his coach shopped the NBA last year, plus he is 66 years old and had heart surgery last year, Warde doesn't appear to have a strong succession plan in place. Takes Warde 9 days to make the hire while top recruit leaves and Warde didn't draw much interest from any of the slam dunk names. Overall, this looks fine and perhaps it was the best he could do. But it isn't a sure fire hire given the lack of prior college or head coaching experience, and Warde's performance here on the whole looks poor given he could neither retain Beilein nor line up a top tier replacement despite clear advance notice of a potential coaching change. I love Juwan and his potential but this is hardly 'killing it'.

Dude, STFU!

There are no “surefire” coaches available, and even that concept is ludicrous.

You’re complaining about the process taking 9 days?!  Cmon man.  You comment like you know what a coaching search and hire actually entails, and what went on behind the scenes and when.  An AD can’t retain a coach who doesn’t want to be retained except in some delusional fan-world in which everything done by experienced experts is wrong.

Well, he was originally offered $17.50/hr. and he was upset about it. But then he had a text conversation with Jeff Moss of the Detroit Sports Rag who convinced him to return to the bargaining table where he subsequently worked over our bumbling AD for an extra $12 million.

I don't know enough about the recruiting calendar but while some like the band guy bitch about it...it may be worth figuring out.

I'd rather Howard be on the road recruiting and building a staff then giving a press conference. That can wait.

Maybe it's a dead period, but if it's recruiting season...we don't need a press conference. Release a statement with a cool graphic and get the man to Texas to get Wilson back.

This confirms absolutely nothing.

People are just saying Sources: Insert Vague Statement That Is Probably True But I Can't Confirm (and neither can you).

Here I've got one...start a new thread please.

SOURCES: As a deal with Howard is finished, the immediate focus will shift to retaining Luke Yaklich.

Another...

SOURCES: Howard expected to reach out to ex-commit Wilson before the end of the week.

Another...

SOURCES: Howard to release statement within next 48 hours.

One more...

SOURCES: Manuel expected to take a dump today...no word on which hand he'll use to wipe.

We, of course, won’t know if this is a home run deal or not for quite some time. However it should prove very interesting for the foreseeable future. All things considered, I think Warde did a fine job (so far - still have to see about the assistant coaches).

It’s gonna be tough following a HOF coach. It might’ve happened soon enough to salvage the 2019 class, but it’s mandatory that Zeb Jackson get a good feel for the new staff.
