Granted, I don't think he wants the job and this probably means "I'm not a candidate, nor will I be a candidate, nor do I want to be a candidate," however he doesn't put any stamp of finality on the matter. This certainly leaves it open-ended. He could become a candidate at some point in the future and if he wants the job he probably will become a candidate. This quote doesn't do much one way or the other.

I think if Lloyd wants the job he'd make it known to MSC and other internal parties but I don't think he'd come out on the day the Martin announcement is made and tell the press: "I want the job!" Essentially, this would make HIM the story, and that isn't Lloyd's way. I think in this situation Lloyd would play coy with the media, as he probably should.

1. I would have bet my life that the Carr-as-AD rumor was wildly mistaken. I never believed it, not for a minute. I presume the wording, "I am not a candidate," may be indicative that he'll be later named as a search committee member, and not a candidate. 2. It would be nice to get some same-day press releases from Lloyd on the petty nature of the Free Press jihad versus Rich Rodriguez, Barwis and the other WV transplants. Lloyd didn't waste any time in clearing the air on this one; I hope he'll do the same for Rich Rodriguez someday.

Yes it would have been nice 6 weeks ago. Unfortunately, at this late date, anything Lloyd had to say publicly on the matter would appear (or actually be) contrived.

Barry Alvarez is currently athletic director at Wisconsin. Ron Mason (hockey) was AD at MSU until last year. Those are two quick examples from the Big Ten. Still, it never seemed that Carr had much interest in the AD spot. Everyone asked him that right when he retired, and he seemed dismissive of the idea then too.

Lloyd developed a real interest in traveling just before he retired as HFC. That, and his other non-athletic pursuits, are probably closer to what he's after these days. He's also in his sixties, so its not like he'd be in the position as AD for a long period. It certainly seems to be in everyone's best interest if he took a role on the search committee, but did not become a candidate for the AD job.

Let's be honest about this, it would be a major conflict of interest for the football team. And without question it would cast an odd shadow over RR as coach. I hope that he is not a candidate and I GUESS he can be on the search committee. But let's be real it would be a bad fit with the current football regime. And whenever I see Lloyd he looks like he is tired and should be retired. He should write a book.

Even Lloyd as a search committee member is a little shady, no? just adding to the conflict of interest I guess. I really just want someone who is in favor of what the program is doing right now. As most of us do. Is there anyone left for RR to fall back on? I really hope Martin has a say on who replaces him.

I agree, the fact that there has been no signs of LC backing RR shows to me that Carr being involved first hand in RR's boss might not be a good idea. If he had even shown a smidgen of backing it might be one thing, but Carr should stick to what he is doing, staying back and throwing out "No Comments" every now and then.

In the interview cited in response to your post, Carr says 1) that Nick Sheridan did a great job last year, 2) that he doesn't want to "get into that" (i.e. the quarterback situation) and 3) that "[RichRod] will do fine." So I'm guessing you were expecting Carr to take the initiative the hold press conferences to defend RichRod or something? Carr never worked with RichRod, and to my knowledge knows very little about him. So, 1) what type of "public support" did you expect from Carr, and 2) what created this hatred for RichRod in Carr?

What's Gary Moeller up to these days??? Ba ha ha I think Lloyd being the AD would kill him. Oh man, if only Jim Harbaugh wasn't doing such great things at Stanford, I'd want him! Though I seem to remember him ripping the program during the coaching search... Too many negatives about Lloyd, though. Glad he removed himself.
