Little brother tweets out lil' bro status
In an effort to, I guess, showcase the achievements of former Spartan football players, MSU football just tweeted out to all it's potential recruits the following:
Congratulations to Brian Hoyer on becoming a Super Bowl Champion! #GoGreen #SpartansInTheNFL pic.twitter.com/qZL9p0Zc5n
— Michigan State Football (@MSU_Football) February 4, 2019
SouthOfHeaven originally posted this without a working link several pages deep in the Brady thread, so credit him, but I figured most didn't see it or the actual link.
Hope lil bro continues to tweet it's lil bro status to recruits.

How DARE they offer a congratulatory tweet to own of their alumni!!!!!!
IMO there is a ton of shit you can rightly rip MSU for but sending out a twitter high-five to one of their own after the Super Bowl isn't one of them.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
indeed - technically he IS an MSU QB who won a super bowl. Overall - I think it is cool that schools cheer on the success of their alum.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
I don't think anyone is trying to manufacture outrage here. This is simply a humorous tweet for the obvious reason.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
I think they missed the own-goal aspect of the humor.
February 4th, 2019 at 3:23 PM ^
+1 sir!
February 4th, 2019 at 5:31 PM ^
Tom Brady also won Jim Miller a championship as well.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
Great point considering the pivotal role he played...this simply should not be overlooked!!!
February 4th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
Well considering he threw 2 passes all season and completed 1 of them for 7 yards, not quite the contribution to the team, let alone help them win a Super Bowl. Julian Edelman was 2 for 2 for 43 yards!
If he was on IR for the whole year, I wonder if they still would have tweeted.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:53 PM ^
He would have been given a sixth year and brought back after he apologized for racial comments.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
No one is ripping them for congratulating a former player being on a SB winning team, it's the circumstances of the tweet. Immediately after the game so you know it was planned out, the actual starting player at the position went to rival Michigan, and Hoyer didn't see a single snap.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^
Oh and maybe the fact that the starting player at that position who just happened to go to said rival is the G.O.A.T. Lmao
February 4th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Have you ever seen the idiotic things they and OSU fans mock us about?? We're allowed to have this.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:07 PM ^
To be fair..... they could have thanked Tom Brady for making one of their own a Super Bowl Champion.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
To be fair, he is kind of like the Tom Brady of MSU QBs. I was asking my MSU buddy today who their TB is, Kirk Cousins, Hoyer or Earl Morral?
February 4th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
kirk gibson
February 4th, 2019 at 5:39 PM ^
I thought the consider Connor Cook to be their best QB.
February 5th, 2019 at 7:27 AM ^
Hence the problem.
February 4th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
He is the backup to a UM alum that has won 6 (more than anyone ever) SB as the starting QB and been in 9 (more than anyone ever) and has 3 SB MVP's (more than anyone ever). What did Hoyer do this year? What are his stats?
Hoyer was 1/2 for 7 yards...Edelman was 2/2 for 43 yards.
Good clipboard holding Hoyer. Nice work.
February 4th, 2019 at 3:18 PM ^
Tom has 4 SB MVPS
February 4th, 2019 at 4:40 PM ^
You've missed the point entirely. Nothing wrong w/ supporting former players, even one who didn't do jack squat in the game or all season.
The reason it's pathetic is that it's an obvious attempt at replying to the forthcoming UM tweets about Brady, as if there is anything remotely comparable about the two situations.
That's why it's a Little Brother move.
February 5th, 2019 at 7:24 AM ^
Fair is fair. Tom Brady actually has a National Championship too, to go with all his Super Bowl rings.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
I think you're reaching for "Trolling" material
February 4th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
Exceptional!!! Fact is stranger than fiction.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:23 PM ^
Post from your real account, coward.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
Which one? There are a LOT to choose from don't forget.
DISCUSS!!
February 4th, 2019 at 2:07 PM ^
you two are ruthless. love it.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
Hilarious!
February 4th, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
OT to a T. Thread worthy?
February 4th, 2019 at 3:57 PM ^
Does it really bother you that "OT" is not in the title thread? I'll tell you the answer. No. It doesn't.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
You should have just linked the 247 article.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:30 PM ^
Technically he was a member of the team, and he did throw for all of those 7 yards on the season. Not just anyone could have done that.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:13 PM ^
True. I probably couldn't have done it.
February 5th, 2019 at 7:28 AM ^
You probably could have.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
How many Michigan tweets/promo materials have there been about NFL alums who seldom/ever see the field? A lot.
Hoyer is on the team. He was part of the championship. What's the problem here?
February 4th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
It’s because it was big bro that got him the ring, so it’s funny.
I wonder if Minnesota won the SB on the shoulders of Kirk Cousins and Jake Rudock was his backup that played two snaps all year, would UM tweet congrats to Jake?
February 4th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
And the fact that they initially tweeted “again”, wrongly thinking Hoyer was involved in any of the past Patriot SB wins.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
If anyone comes off poorly with this it's the OP.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
Sparty is going to Spart. JPC is going to JPC.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:34 PM ^
I thought this was pretty hilarious. Sparty basically trolling themselves.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:34 PM ^
There are myriad things I dislike about the Spartan football fan base, many of which are mockable.
This, though, seems like a legitimate expression of congratulations to a Super Bowl champion. Not "little bro" at all, in my estimation.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:38 PM ^
I agree - I think MSU is correct in offering congratulations to a super bowl winner. You have to see a touch of irony here though right?
I have no doubt that UM has promotional material for bit NFL NBA, etc players. I'm not saying this is worthy of mocking. Praising a QB for the New England Patriots and having it not be Tom Brady, but an MSU grad is pretty funny. I give sparty credit for the move.
I have a dollar in my pocket, I must be the "God" figure in whom we all trust.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Dude stop. Michigan social media always posts about reserve-level players in the NFL and NBA
February 4th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
I’m willing to bet that very few if any casual football fans were aware that Hoyer was even on the roster. Now that I know he was on the sideline holding a clipboard, I’m totally unimpressed.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Dude has a Super Bowl ring he can wear. More money than he can spend. Msu has every right to congratulate him. I would love to be Tom Brady's backup.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
Brian Hoyer = Darko Milicic
February 4th, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
??? was hoyer the #2 overall pick in the draft?
February 4th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
Now that you mention it so would I. If only for the surplus babes that would be available in his wake.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
Honestly, it's not that big of a deal they congratulated him. But MSU also did this last year with Nick Foles, who left MSU and (I believe) never even saw the field. So it's weird how much they try to draft off the success of others even tangentially related to the school.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:56 PM ^
The first tweet that went out congratulated Hoyer for being a Super Bowl Champion...again. When someone pointed out that Hoyer hasn't actually won anything until yesterday, they deleted the tweet and replaced it with the one in the OP. Being wrong in your congratulations because your alumnus QB is so irrelevant in the NFL - that's hilarious.
February 4th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
Should Michigan not recognize Elvis Grbac as a Super Bowl champion? He got in at the very end of the 49ers blowout victory over the Chargers in SB XXIX. One carry, one incomplete pass.
