Every time I see the name "Brian Cook," all I can think of is the closing scene from the movie Shane. Except they're yelling "BRIAN! COME BACK BRIAN!" over and over again. This is a huge problem, because as someone named Shane, I'm pretty sick of hearing "SHAAAAAAANE! COME BACK SHANE!" when I introduce myself to someone.

Hats off to Brian. I knew he was awesome. I never REALLY realized how amazing he is until this vacation. I am deprived of good Michigan related news and it sucks. I can't wait until Brian comes back.

Leave my Blog (WLA) out - if we suck, we suck. But what the fuck has been so bad about this week? Dylan knows more about hoops than Brian or any of us combined. Yost Built and Hoover Street Rag dropped knowledge about hockey several times. Tim and Paul have brought recruiting info. Greg from MVictors came with his historical perspective. All of them are very good, and knowledgeable writers. Seriously, you people want to shit on all these people because they're "not Brian"? I have as much respect for Brian as anyone - more, likely, as I have a clue, after this week, how much work he puts into this. But Brian has a mutual respect for the people he asked to write here this week, and these people have done it, for nothing more than your entertainment. And you people want to sit here and just bitch and moan about it? Seriously, learn some manners.

Wow. Throw a hissy fit because these people don't like the other writers as much. They read Brian's blog for Brian. They have an affinity for him, his writing style, and what he writes about. Settle down. Jesus. Just because they like Brian more does not mean these other writers suck. I happen to like these other sites. I'm personally a big fan of Varsity Blue. People are going to have allegiances. That doesn't mean you have to have a heart attack.

I'm not having a heart attack. Saying that Brian "deprives him of any Michigan content" means that the legion of people who have written (for free) for his entertainment have failed to do so.

Calm down. I'm not saying your blog is bad. I'm not saying that I hate your posting. All I am saying is that there is nothing even close to Brian's posting. Don't take it personal. WLA has done a decent job at filling in. I'm just saying that I realized that there is no one like Brian.

I honestly don't give a shit if you hate my blog. I'm more offended that 8 different writers have written solely for your entertainment this week and rather than merely saying nothing, you decided to bitch about them.

While I too miss the quality of Brian's posts, and I can't say I'm a fan of the tyranny that is the WLA (kidding guys...chill...) we have had some great guest posts that were informative and well written. The Mgosnobs that constantly bitch about our beloved Brian taking some time off need to realize that he didn't leave us hanging without our daily fix of material. I for one appreciate the guest bloggers and have found a new appreciation for more than one of them - as I'm sure was Brian's intent.

I think people could express their love for Brian differently, but you're reading A LOT into just a few posts. I'm sure most people appreciate the fill-ins.

I don't think his view is held by "most" but it's shitty. Numerous writers have come here to write purely for the entertainment of the crowd here. It's impolite to bitch about them. If you don't like it, just shut your mouth and wait for the next thing.

I for one love the guest bloggers they all bring special skill sets and its actually nice to see what the other blogs can offer an dsee what you like when you finishe reading the material on MGoblog. I have found that all of these are good and look forward to reading them in the future and its not like brian left us with people who haven't done this before or worse nothing so if you don't like it suck it up or get off the site till brian comes back and stop complaining.

Also, I replied to UMfan, but he wasn't the only person I directed it at. The OP's vibe is that this week has been awful.

Again you're saying vibe. Reading into sarcasm also is not a science on these here interwebs. You're kind of going ape shit on these people and they haven't even insulted anyone. UMfan is coming off as a little more insulting with his explanations now, but the other guys just say they like Brian more. Talk about being productive, is trying to rip these guys new assholes helping at all ? Why not start a thread thanking all of the guest posters. I'm sure in the style of these boards posters will predominantly show up to say something along the lines of....oh yeah, i forgot to thank these guys. i agree, everyone has been awesome. To each his own.

As a "guest poster" myself, it'd be pretty lame of me to start a "Thank You guest poster" thread. That aside, I read VB and MVictors near every single day, and UMHoops before/after every game. I'm not a huge hockey fan, but if I were, I can tell that Yost Built and HSR are knowledgeable, excellent writers. I'm happy that all of them have contributed this week.

I agree. I read BHB and VB fairly regularly. I like those sites more in addition with Mgoblog as compared to the ones you listed because I'm kind of a recruitnik. One of those loser guys that can't help but be addicted to little bits of useless news that means nothing until 3 years from now. These 3 sites offer a lot of that info where as the others not so much, when it comes to football. So I obviously have my leans for specific reasons. But I read those other sites often as well, and think they're all very good at what they do. Theres nothing wrong with giving credit to your fellow posters but I can see where you're coming from, so .....

I appreciate all the time and effort U of M football bloggers put in. This site and all the others in the blogosphere are heaven to Michigan football degenerates like myself. Keep it up guys, you write it, I'll read it....

Why are some folks surprised that those of us that frequent this blog do so because we like Brian's writing style? Seems obvious to me. Why wouldn't we be disappointed that he is not posting? Even if all the other posters were great, they still do not have Brian's style.

I obviously understand that. That's not at all what I'm saying. Complaining about the free content that Brian lined up for one week's time is what I'm speaking about.

I'm sure that none of the guest posters had an eye towards increased exposure and traffic for their own blogs. Nope, they did all for the love. The love! How dare you take that love and sully it with your criticism! That said, the only post that bothered me was the first WLA post (I'm ignorant as to the content of the most recent ones) - I didn't much more than skim the hockey and basketball posts, but that's only because I don't care as much about hockey and basketball. The once-over indicated that these were admirable fill-ins.

I don't know if I speak for the rest of the writers at the WLA when I say this, but my involvement with writing the two pieces we did in Brian's absence had NOTHING to do with increased traffic to the WLA site. The WLA site has no ads, no donation button, and doesn't sell t-shirts (although this may change in the future). There is no financial incentive to drive readership. Most of the readers here already know about the WLA site because the most prominent WLA writers (Dex, chitownblue, Maize4Blue, ShockFX, ninjafootball and others) are regular commentors and usually help moderate the gameday CiLs. So there is little opportunity to further the MGoCommunity's awareness of the WLA. I helped write those two articles because I felt a sense of loyalty to Brian for all of the effort he puts into this site and wanted to help provide content while he takes a much deserved vacation. The WLA guys all came together on MGo and spend a lot of time contributing to the comments here and to ignore the opportunity to give something back is would be very selfish. I would imagine (but I don't know as fact) that the other bloggers who contributed in Brian's absence share this sentiment.

Yes it has been different this week without Brian's particular wit and insight, but as a regular reader of nearly all the guest-writer's blogs, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting my Michigan/Unicorn-centric humor, in-depth recruiting, Hockey/Basketball and Michigan history fix all in one place. I know all of you have your own blogs that are merely a link away from MGoBlog, but I have greatly appreciated the content being centralized, and want to thank you for your contributions. That said, I am truly looking forward to Brian's return and how he addresses/mentions the going-ons of the past week.

Honestly this vacation has opened me up to so many other michigan blogs who are guest posting. This is not good...i spend way too much time on here anyways and now instead of dividing that up with some of the other blogs (VB, WLA) I've just started spending time on those in addition to mgoblog.
