Let's petition for a Michigan Hover Helmet (coolest thing you'll see today)

Submitted by ska4punkkid on

Most of you have probably never heard of a hover helmet before but my colleague at the office has one for his team, BYU (living in Provo, I had alot of fun after last years beatdown). They are so cool!!! They currently don't sell any Michigan ones. In fact the only B10 team they sell is...Maryland

Check out the website and then email the company. I'll make it so easy for everyone:

Website - hoverhelmets.com

Email - [email protected]

Subject Line - Michigan Wolverine Helmet!

What to say - Please make a Michigan Wolverine hover helmet! We have the largest fanbase in the world and you would sell thousands of these! Pretty please!

I copied and pasted everything into my email and just sent it. I want that. In hindsight I should have attached the Shut Up And Take My Money meme.

They must have a different definition of the term "how does it work":

The Hover Helmet patented design begins with a four inch, mini-football helmet. We work with each team to ensure our helmets feature the latest helmet artwork. LED lighting located in the base of the stand illuminates the helmet. Once plugged in, your helmet will hover and rotate indefinitely!

That sounds more like "what it is". As an engineer I need to know how it works, dammit!

If Oregon has any sense, they have a "flagship" helmet and jersey design for this kind of static stuff.

I suppose Alabama has a number to use on their helmet as well for the same reason.  If they don't it shoud be #12 - Namath and Stabler I think.  Which leads me to digress . . . how can a school that had Namath, Stabler, and Starr produce such sucky QBs now?

Based in Danville, Alabama. No wonder we don't see the B1G. But, surely they like money, so they'd be silly not to add the B1G heavyweights.

Does nobody in this thread understand the concept of licensing? They can't just start making and selling Michigan helmets without going through the university and/or IMG and getting approval and (probably) paying some large sum of money to do so.

Yes we know what licensing is. The purpose is though for the company to see that there is a large demand for the product. This we are hoping will provoke them to pay such licensing fees in order to sell said brand. Supply and demand still needs the demand.

Hoover Helmet would have to go through Michigan and the Collegiate Licensing Company. An application costs roughly $1000 per school, and there is no guarentee that they would even get approved. After the approval, they would then need to file all artwork through the Michigan licensing office where they check to make sure it meets their brand requirements. A lot of the time, this occurs before any attempts to get this product on shelves in the state of Michigan. Oh, and then after that, they would need to pay Michigan 13 percent of the wholesale cost of each Hoover Helmet sold.

I would buy 2 immediately, one for myself and one for my dad for Christmas. I sent them an email asking if they have any plans on making a UofM one and if so how long they thought it'd be before they went to production. If I hear anything from them I'll post the reply here.

is awesome.  I also clicked thinking it would be some cheesy cheap something or other.  Quite the contrary.

Suspect as others have suggested that it's a money/licensing thing.  I bet we ask an arm and a leg for stuff like this.

No thanks I have a similar product of the Dr. Who TARDIS. thing is always falling down with the slightest of breeze. I doubt they have it much better to make such an investment. my mini helmet looks better anyways.
