Late-Night Bright Idea: Isaiah Bell to Fullback?

Submitted by WolvinLA2 on

Just to preface, this is completely unsubstantiated.  I haven't read this anywhere besides the inside of my own cranium.  But what if we moved Isaiah Bell to fullback?  We know he's athletic (came in as a relatively highly rated safety) and we know he's big (roster lists him at 6'1" 245, about the same size and Demens.

What we think:  Bell will only be a RS soph this fall, but is presumably passed on the depth chart by guys his own age or younger at some LB spot (Ryan and Mike Jones).  Demens is only a year ahead of him and has locked down the MIKE spot, and we're bringing in a slew of young talented LBs in this class.

If we decide that he'll likely be a back-up, why not have him hold down the starting FB spot for a few years?  His size and athleticism would be great for that spot.

Thoughts?

Interestingly enough, despite being listed as a linebacker he was the best fullback left on the roster in my NCAA dynasty in the third season (recruiting fullbacks is tougher than it looks), so he became my starter.

Plus I heard that he is struggling at linebacker (apparently due a lot to his work ethic or lack thereof; don't kill the messenger, which I am sure will happen anyways) so the potential move makes some sense to me.

yeah, dudes want to play, and if he's 4th on the depth chart at one position i'm sure he wouldn't be averse to giving another one a spin. he's a big dude. there's a new spot on the field for big dudes. why not try it out

Interesting idea.  I have no info as to whether he played offense in high school.  Antonio Kinard was the FB on that Liberty team and Fitz was the tailback, but I imagine they somehow worked a good athlete like Isaiah into the mix.  He had some pick sixes as a safety.

As we are on interesting possible position moves, how about Cam Gordon to TE?  We are overstocked with Spur/Bandit types now that a base 4-3 looks inevitable.  Some of these guys could be strong safeties (Kovacs, T.Gordon, M-Rob), but how many of those do we need?  Cam with 20lbs. could be a force at TE both receiving and blocking - he loves to hit and would not have to worry about his mental block with regard to wrapping up.

Eh, he was a frosh and he's one of our only LBs with size. Not sure how much I care about FB right now. I say keep him at LB until he's an official bust.
