Kourtlandt Adkins picks Houston
that he wanted to play defense rather than offense. I think I remember him saying in an interview that Houston was recruiting him for defense whereas we were recruiting for offense.
This is very surprising to me. I figured we would at least get him up for a visit. However, I also wasn't aware that he was set on playing defense.
We'll see how long that holds up. Plenty of time to get him back up high on us. I'm sure a campus visit to UM would prove vastly superior to Houston.
I'm sure a campus visit to UM would prove vastly superior to Houston. You know, not every person in the world has the same opinion as you. Some people may truly pick Houston over Michigan.
That's true, and I cannot account for the way someone else feels about a school. It truly may be a better fit for him.
I was referring to the fact that we have the largest stadium in the country (newly renovated), the largest indoor practice facility, a brand new state of the art weight room, and traditions that heavily outnumber those of Houston. I would call that superior.
They have an air raid siren go off whenever the Cougars score a TD
This board has a nasty habit of negging anyone who doesn't accept that UofM is inherently superior (especially academically but often geographically or culturally) to other places. Many people don't share the same view. Pretty obvious to say this, but its amazing how often its ignored.
A teenager's views and motivations (especially non-local) often aren't going to be the same as that of a UofM fan/alumnist. The leafy college town thing doesn't appeal to everyone.
I've lived in Houston and thought it one of the worst cities in the country but its amazing how many people love that part of Texas and won't even consider leaving.
Atkins grew up a Michigan fan, and his family is from here. His uncle played basketball for UofM. Its not like we are talking about some random Doug from Houston here.
I read that he needed to retake the SAT's, so maybe that has something to do with it.
it's hard to commit to a place that hasn't given you an offer.
From what I've heard, Akins' official offer hasn't arrived yet. He's only been offered verbally by Michigan.
If/when that offer arrives, we might see some things change.
Please correct me if you know otherwise.
If he really wants to play defense than offense then it just wasn't in the cards. We desperately need O linemen in this class.
There's a long time yet where things can play out...
That said if he thinks Houston is the best place for him, you can't tell him he's wrong...
he would then have to *attend* Houston.
Well, good luck to him if that is his preference.
Didn't have an official UM offer. Was verballed, and apparently was going to get one if he retook the SAT and scored better.
Per Rivals a little while back he said:
“Basically, with all the schools that have been talking to me about scholarships, all I have to do is retake my SAT, then I should be good,”
A few other schools took the same approach apparently.
Also, 2 of his other teammates committed today and he had said he didn't have the money to get out here for an unofficial visist, so if he takes an official here (which obviously costs him a lot less) things may change.
EDIT: also, not a huge deal, but its Akins not Adkins.
Bigger fish to fry.
