Juwan Howard breaks down the Michigan's recruiting class
There's some fluff in this Freep article, but I think it's a good read. I like how Howard mentions the players' parents by name:

Sorry about "Michigan's" there. Meant to write just Michigan ...
November 14th, 2020 at 8:37 AM ^
Are you sure you didn't mean THE Michigan's recruiting class?
November 14th, 2020 at 10:18 AM ^
He meant Michigan University.

Michigan's lucky to have a good man as our basketball coach.

Maybe JH could ask JH for some recruiting tips.

What stands out to me is culture. The players speak of it, and Coach Howard oozes it. This eas evident from his initial press conference.
Compare this to Harbaugh. He sure seemed to be building that culture in the beginning, but somewhere it seems to have plateaued. It seems to have lost that excitement/passion.
You also have to wonder how expectations from the fanbase play in to all of this. With Jim we expected Championships; with Juwan it seemed to be excitement with some uncertainty.

Yeah, they both played for Michigan and were dominant. Did you play sports for Michigan... And yet you know more about the culture in your infinite wisdom?
November 14th, 2020 at 9:03 AM ^
I don’t think you have to have played for Michigan to see the culture Jim Harbaugh’s team oozes. But hey don’t let me stop you from defending a mediocre results at a premium price.

Saban didn't play for Bama, but he seems to get it.
November 14th, 2020 at 10:06 AM ^
He didn't while at MSU or Miami - was he a bad coach then?
November 14th, 2020 at 10:32 AM ^
He was a good coach at MSU and I was glad to see him leave.

Good, but not good enough to ever win the conference or have a winning record against the better teams in the conference.
The point is that many factors go into football success - even the "best" coach can still lose a game (or a season).

East German got a question. So do you think Harbaugh and I do mean truthfully has the same(tools) SABAN has at BAMA? Asking for a friend. I will follow up with you if you in any way shape or form hint at a yes answer. I have proof.
November 14th, 2020 at 10:23 AM ^
Seems to get what? That "it" is doing quite a lot of work there.

I don't claim to know the culture from the inside. I am looking at things from 10,000 feet and maybe, hopefully I am wrong about the football team. It just feels different from a fan perspective; and there you have it... BPONE. However, I also feel apathy which is never good.
I will watch the games, root for Michigan as I always have. It is just the lows do not get me that low anymore. I gave props to my Spartan colleagues for having a better game plan and team that day. The hate and vitriol is gone. Maybe its from all the times my wife has said to me, "I thought Michigan was good this year?"
November 14th, 2020 at 11:37 AM ^
There is something wrong with the culture of the football team and it's obvious. Harbaugh clearly lacks passion, players come out flat for rivalry games, and have huge issues with adversity. Anyone who denies this isn't paying attention
November 14th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
Also so many mental mistakes - something is definitely off, and it has been for a while.
November 14th, 2020 at 10:22 AM ^
Juwan benefits from lower expectations at a football school that has a brand that still can attract top recruits; almost the best of both worlds. In other words the fans aren’t as rabid regarding hoops.

Probably helps that Michigan has beaten OSU and MSU fairly regularly, won conference titles, and been to national championship games in the last 10 years. Kids want to win and this is a winning program. Unlike football.
November 14th, 2020 at 11:29 AM ^
People wanted Beilein fired 2.5 years after we made the championship game in 2013. We had a fluky year with multiple season ending injuries in 2015 and the fanbase made the exact same argument everyone is making about Harbaugh-they can’t see the team getting any better moving forward and we should hire someone who recruits better. I remember everyone wanted Shaka Smart but thought he was a pipe dream (Smart is a very mediocre coach but had a wildly successful run at VCU).
Long story short-Harbaugh has some serious issues right now, but Beilein has taught me that the fan base as a whole are idiots. I will continue to voice my concerns and root for the coach and the team. But if you think Harbaugh winning and going to the championship is going to stop people from calling for his firing, you haven’t been paying attention much. He could have beaten OSU in 2016 and went to the playoffs and people would still be calling for his head right now because of how awful we played against MSU and Indians.
November 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Well, yea, fans are fickle idiots for the most part. My point was more about recruiting
November 14th, 2020 at 1:22 PM ^
Coach B wasn’t making $8M per year to win Championships. JH is paid and was brought in to do so. Big freaking difference.
November 14th, 2020 at 8:04 PM ^
No shit Sherlock. Thanks for doubling down on my point. Juwan bringing in #1 classes cuz it’s a winning program. Harbaugh isn’t cuz M football is toast.
November 14th, 2020 at 11:34 AM ^
Even on social media you can genuinely see how close all the players are. Even new guys like Chaundee Brown and Mike Smith are hanging out with the whole team and freshmen, making tik toks, etc.

He mentioned the mom first everytime. I do not think that is coincidental.
November 14th, 2020 at 10:35 AM ^
I took your post wrong way at first, since there seems to be no mention of the father.
November 14th, 2020 at 10:15 AM ^
You can tell he has teenage sons by that chair. Lol.
Love Juwan.

Juwan is a class individual with talent and he seems to be recruiting players in his own image. That bodes well for Michigan. I can’t wait for this group of young men to take the floor at Crisler. Ascending!
