JJ McCarthy (IMG Academy) will face Junior Colson (Ravenwood in a battle of Michigan Commits

Submitted by LSA Aught One on September 25th, 2020 at 2:16 PM

Tonight in Brentwood, TN, Junior Colson and Ravenwood will host JJ McCarthy and IMG Academy.  I expect to see IMG destroy Ravenwood, but it will be good to see Junior on National TV.  9PM East / 8PM Central on ESPN.

Need 4 weeks for camp, as some schools had halted football activities. Also allows for time to get the testing equipment distributed.

8 game slate with a 9th game crossover that occurs right before CFP selection. Meaning adding bye weeks either means fewer games, or the B1G playing deep into December and after the CFP makes their four selections. We see it with the Pac 12 starting two weeks later and only doing 7 games instead of 9.

Would the CFP pick a B1G team that still has games to play? If the answer to that is yes, you then have to ask why that B1G team would go out and play the rest of their games if they’re already in the CFP. If Michigan was 7-0, picked to the CFP, then why would we go out and play OSU or the conference title game at that point?

Let me get this straight, a high school football team is traveling from Florida to Tennessee to play a game on Friday.

1.  Are they aware of covid?

2.  Who pays for the flight,/hotel/meals for this type of trip?

3.  As this game is being played in another state on a school day, do these kids not have to go to class?

Honest question: was Michigan ever QB U?

Michigan has produced some pretty good QBs over the years, but hardly enough to what I'd consider being QB U.

USC and Oklahoma probably hold that title. Or at least USC did ~10 years ago from the stretch of Palmer, Leinart, Sanchez and Barkley all being really successful there. Oklahoma is unquestionably the QB U of this era. An argument can probably be made for OSU to be within the top 3-5 of that conversation over the last 20 years as well. Disgustingly enough.

You must not be familiar with Michigan's football history but you should check out the steady string of QBs that Michigan was putting into the pros.  It wasn't just Michigan people saying that.

Also, there was a period of time when Michigan dominated head to head vs OSU.  Hard to believe I know.

Depends on how you choose to look at the QBU terminology.

If we’re talking in terms of production while in college, no we are not and have never been QBU. You can count on one hand how many times a Michigan QB has bit 3,000 passing yards and we’ve yet to have a QB top 25 passing TDs. Nobody can honestly make the argument that Michigan is QBU in that regard.

however, if you’re looking at it through the scope of sending guys to the NFL you won’t find a school with a much better track record than Michigan in the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Even for those that don't watch high school football often (which is me in general) JJ and IMG is worth the effort even if you DVR it. Every game has been nationally televised so far, hopefully they keep it up.

Hope Junior sticks - he's fantastic.  JJM has the intangible leadership qualities of a former UM QB, JJH.  So pumped to watch him play for us!

ESPN U is not national TV, but for anyone who wants to watch go to this link, always works well for me.

McCarthy does not look great. 3rd game of season and his throws are late, long or inaccurate. Colson just had him dead to rights and looked very slow and sluggish to react as McCarthy, who does have some wiggle (but not that much), made him look like he was stuck in hours old concrete. 10-0 late in the 1st and neither of these teams look particularly talented

What the hell are you talking about?

He hasn't missed a throw. Just not always on the same page with his WRs.

He had a TD taken away because of a DPI.

He threw a beautiful back shoulder fade and WR didn't turn quick enough.

He threw another perfectly placed ball down the right sideline and his WR just stopped running.

He's not going to throw 6-7 TDs a game, lol

Colson I agree with.

McCarthy went Tate Forcier vs. ND on him.

Colson is very stiff, he's a straight line guy. He's got some speed (he returns kicks and plays some safety). But he moves like he's a DE in a S body.

I wonder if he could put weight on and play the Uche role. He's got the speed. But needs 3 years to gain weight.

Exactly.

That's the stuff I'm looking at...not necessarily the result with some kid he won't be playing with 2 month from now and wasn't playing with 2 months ago.

He makes that throw to Michigan teammates that he's working with and developed a rhythm with and it's an easy first down, maybe even a TD.

His worse pass was actually the last one, the jump ball. But even then he scrambled out of a sack and bought himself some time.

Just needs to reset his feet.

The refs have straight up given Ravenwood 2 4th down calls now lol. That IMG lineman very clearly got a first down, but gave IMG a terrible spot, then on that fake punt the ball was very clearly a few inches short and just gave them a 1st down anyway
