JJ McCarthy (IMG Academy) will face Junior Colson (Ravenwood in a battle of Michigan Commits
Tonight in Brentwood, TN, Junior Colson and Ravenwood will host JJ McCarthy and IMG Academy. I expect to see IMG destroy Ravenwood, but it will be good to see Junior on National TV. 9PM East / 8PM Central on ESPN.

I am leaving work early to go see this game, I am very excited to see what JJ and Junior do tonight. Go blue.
September 25th, 2020 at 2:21 PM ^
Tell Junior that JJ is wearing that red vest tonight!
September 25th, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
Everyone stays healthy, let's hope (injuries as well as covid).
September 25th, 2020 at 2:27 PM ^
Three other teams in the area had to cancel tonight due to COVID...
September 25th, 2020 at 3:33 PM ^
Im left wondering why the B1G, in their infinite wisdom, did not schedule one or two bye weeks to allow for covid make-up games?!! They should start playing in a couple weeks and not wait.
September 25th, 2020 at 4:51 PM ^
I agree with the sentiment but think Wisconsin (and others?) drove the 24th date. I am pretty sure that they had a complete campus lockdown in Madison that ends around now. 4 weeks of practice from now gives you a 10/24 start date.
September 25th, 2020 at 7:15 PM ^
Yep, Madison just ended a 2-week quarantine for all students. Wait until the next B1G school goes into lockdown for Covid and the football program has a dilemma with practice before 10/24.
September 26th, 2020 at 1:35 AM ^
Need 4 weeks for camp, as some schools had halted football activities. Also allows for time to get the testing equipment distributed.
8 game slate with a 9th game crossover that occurs right before CFP selection. Meaning adding bye weeks either means fewer games, or the B1G playing deep into December and after the CFP makes their four selections. We see it with the Pac 12 starting two weeks later and only doing 7 games instead of 9.
Would the CFP pick a B1G team that still has games to play? If the answer to that is yes, you then have to ask why that B1G team would go out and play the rest of their games if they’re already in the CFP. If Michigan was 7-0, picked to the CFP, then why would we go out and play OSU or the conference title game at that point?
September 25th, 2020 at 2:31 PM ^
Thanks for posting these. I’ve set the DVR.
September 25th, 2020 at 2:54 PM ^
Let me get this straight, a high school football team is traveling from Florida to Tennessee to play a game on Friday.
1. Are they aware of covid?
2. Who pays for the flight,/hotel/meals for this type of trip?
3. As this game is being played in another state on a school day, do these kids not have to go to class?
September 25th, 2020 at 3:02 PM ^
1. I assume yes - but I get it
2. Major Sponsors like Gatorade and Under Armour (seriously)
3. They dont go to IMG to play school
September 25th, 2020 at 3:34 PM ^
Correct on all three points !!
September 25th, 2020 at 4:53 PM ^
Don’t forget that ESPN money!!!
September 26th, 2020 at 7:46 AM ^
I bet IMG is little more than an athletic diploma mill.
September 25th, 2020 at 3:55 PM ^
Someone should speak to the manager.
September 25th, 2020 at 4:45 PM ^
Malik McDowell (presumably) isn't doing much right now, have him ask for the supervisor.
September 26th, 2020 at 8:10 AM ^
1 Because we've spent enough time not living life and more young healthy people are going to die of suicide than covid if we keep this up forever. Ohio is at 2.5%. The level for under control is 5%.
Go. Live your life. Don't spend it locked inside in fear.
September 25th, 2020 at 3:29 PM ^
Wow... I bet we see Junior meet J.J. in the backfield a few times tonight !
September 25th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
Are you sure it's on ESPN? My guide is listing it for ESPNU.
September 25th, 2020 at 4:47 PM ^
Yup. They changed the article after I posted. ESPNU. Sorry.
September 25th, 2020 at 3:51 PM ^
Hopefully we come back to being QB U!
September 25th, 2020 at 4:26 PM ^
Honest question: was Michigan ever QB U?
Michigan has produced some pretty good QBs over the years, but hardly enough to what I'd consider being QB U.
USC and Oklahoma probably hold that title. Or at least USC did ~10 years ago from the stretch of Palmer, Leinart, Sanchez and Barkley all being really successful there. Oklahoma is unquestionably the QB U of this era. An argument can probably be made for OSU to be within the top 3-5 of that conversation over the last 20 years as well. Disgustingly enough.
September 25th, 2020 at 5:03 PM ^
Yes we did, for a stretch of time, we had the most number of qbs in the NFL. Granted, all were not starters, but were on the active roster.
WD, crack open the Super Guide!
September 25th, 2020 at 5:45 PM ^
I don’t have a super guide. But the era basically started with Elvis Grbac and ran through to Henne. Todd Collins, Tom Brady, Drew Henson, Brian Griese were all part of that period.
September 25th, 2020 at 11:53 PM ^
You must not be familiar with Michigan's football history but you should check out the steady string of QBs that Michigan was putting into the pros. It wasn't just Michigan people saying that.
Also, there was a period of time when Michigan dominated head to head vs OSU. Hard to believe I know.
September 26th, 2020 at 1:52 AM ^
Depends on how you choose to look at the QBU terminology.
If we’re talking in terms of production while in college, no we are not and have never been QBU. You can count on one hand how many times a Michigan QB has bit 3,000 passing yards and we’ve yet to have a QB top 25 passing TDs. Nobody can honestly make the argument that Michigan is QBU in that regard.
however, if you’re looking at it through the scope of sending guys to the NFL you won’t find a school with a much better track record than Michigan in the 90’s and early 2000’s.
September 25th, 2020 at 4:09 PM ^
Blue wins!
September 25th, 2020 at 4:19 PM ^
Colson has an amazing life story already. I will be rooting a little extra for this young man.
September 25th, 2020 at 4:45 PM ^
Any chance I can find this on ESPN+ ?
September 25th, 2020 at 5:20 PM ^
Even for those that don't watch high school football often (which is me in general) JJ and IMG is worth the effort even if you DVR it. Every game has been nationally televised so far, hopefully they keep it up.
September 25th, 2020 at 5:32 PM ^
I'll watch, McCarthy was lights out in the last game I saw.
September 25th, 2020 at 6:07 PM ^
Hope Junior sticks - he's fantastic. JJM has the intangible leadership qualities of a former UM QB, JJH. So pumped to watch him play for us!
September 25th, 2020 at 6:59 PM ^
Sticks to what?
September 26th, 2020 at 12:50 AM ^
The basics, what else???
September 25th, 2020 at 10:21 PM ^
Junior isn't the one there are concerns about...it's Jaydon Hood.
September 25th, 2020 at 6:56 PM ^
It’s airing on ESPNU tonight, not ESPN.
September 25th, 2020 at 8:09 PM ^
ESPN U is not national TV, but for anyone who wants to watch go to this link, always works well for me.

McCarthy does not look great. 3rd game of season and his throws are late, long or inaccurate. Colson just had him dead to rights and looked very slow and sluggish to react as McCarthy, who does have some wiggle (but not that much), made him look like he was stuck in hours old concrete. 10-0 late in the 1st and neither of these teams look particularly talented
September 25th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
What the hell are you talking about?
He hasn't missed a throw. Just not always on the same page with his WRs.
He had a TD taken away because of a DPI.
He threw a beautiful back shoulder fade and WR didn't turn quick enough.
He threw another perfectly placed ball down the right sideline and his WR just stopped running.
He's not going to throw 6-7 TDs a game, lol
September 25th, 2020 at 10:11 PM ^
Colson I agree with.
McCarthy went Tate Forcier vs. ND on him.
Colson is very stiff, he's a straight line guy. He's got some speed (he returns kicks and plays some safety). But he moves like he's a DE in a S body.
I wonder if he could put weight on and play the Uche role. He's got the speed. But needs 3 years to gain weight.
September 25th, 2020 at 10:16 PM ^
Agreed, McCarthy has been solid and there's been throws where his receivers just don't catch the ball for whatever reason. That back shoulder pass was beautiful but his receiver was just not on the same page
September 25th, 2020 at 10:19 PM ^
Exactly.
That's the stuff I'm looking at...not necessarily the result with some kid he won't be playing with 2 month from now and wasn't playing with 2 months ago.
He makes that throw to Michigan teammates that he's working with and developed a rhythm with and it's an easy first down, maybe even a TD.
His worse pass was actually the last one, the jump ball. But even then he scrambled out of a sack and bought himself some time.
Just needs to reset his feet.
September 25th, 2020 at 10:57 PM ^
6-17 for 100 yards at the 1/2?
September 25th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
McCarthy not impressive so far.
September 25th, 2020 at 10:09 PM ^
what throws has he missed?
September 25th, 2020 at 10:58 PM ^
The majority of them. With the exception of dump offs to RBs
September 25th, 2020 at 10:18 PM ^
McCarthy has made his throws, but his receivers have just seemed off
September 25th, 2020 at 11:05 PM ^
The stats don’t lie.
September 26th, 2020 at 10:34 AM ^
Accept that they do...
September 25th, 2020 at 10:14 PM ^
The refs have straight up given Ravenwood 2 4th down calls now lol. That IMG lineman very clearly got a first down, but gave IMG a terrible spot, then on that fake punt the ball was very clearly a few inches short and just gave them a 1st down anyway
