I was in 5th Grade when Mitch Albom's Fab Five Book came out. I brought it to class for reading time; and, of course, I got in trouble for the "nuts hang" portions. I believe it was a Naughty by Nature reference (definitely from a rap song).

EDIT: It was Geto Boys - Gota Let Your Nuts Hang ... According to Jalen, it was the theme song for the Fab Five. ( link )  The link also shows all the rap videos Jalen has been in, which I never noticed until just now. Gotta love Google.

Thanks for that link.  I had no idea that Jalen had been in THAT many rap videos, or that he was so well connected.   It's just a reminder to me, that even people outside the state of Michigan realized what a big deal the Fab Five were.

I think its a good thing. Let the Fab Five take all the media away from the team. All the media can do is rock the boat and make things worse. The Fab Five got all the media back in their day, and it didn't work out for them. I like the fact that other teams keep putting their feet in their mouths, while our press is coming from a bunch of dudes that played 20 years ago. The team can just focus on basketball and Syracuse.

Jimmy King's laugh and reaction is priceless. Instead of choking or acting like nothing happened, he just laughed and said "Same thing baby! Let em hang!" ... Michael Smith was trying to switch over to Jalen/Jimmy to deflect attention, but Jimmy just reaffirmed what Ray said. Let em hang boys!

I think it'd be awesome to see them all at the final four. If we make the title game, I'd say there's good odds of 4 of them making it. I'd still be shocked to see Chris Webber

I think it'd be great. It'd give some closure to the Fab Five, and it'd allow the current players to realize their importance to Michigan history. A group of Michigan players that had a 2 hour ESPN documentary made about them, are now on the sideline looking up to you as you try to accomplish goals that even they couldn't achieve. Aside from that, I don't think this team can get distracted. Wouldn't it have happened by now? A National POY getting attention from everywhere, Tim Hardaway and The Big Dog in the stands, a #1 ranking ... these boys have seen it all. They can handle some 40 year olds on the sidelines cheering them on.

It's about heart.

It's great to see these guys on TV talking shit. That was hip hop basketball. Most people don't realize what these guys meant in terms of mass culture. All of a sudden where I live in Albuquerque there were all kinds of kids running around in baggy saggy M bball shorts. They were a phenomenon. The AD did quite well from it, too.

Jemele Hill's story (HERE) on the possibility of reuniting the Fab Five now that things have come "full circle" is an interesting one. It talks about how King specifically initially echoed Dave Brandon's sentiment from the documentary that Webber needs to apologize, but he now believes that the Final Four trip means that it might time to call it even. Supposedly, Beilein and Brandon have made active efforts to reconnect the Fab Five with the current team too. I believe that King and Jackson said they would be there tonight too - not sure about the others.

As for the video posted here, classic stuff - great to hear them as energizd by this current team as  we are really.

saw them play many many games.

watched them lose (in person) 'cause of the TO.

but all throughout they were one of the most exciting and fun teams to watch that i've ever watched in sports.

LET 'EM HANG!

I would suggest a T-shirt saying as much, but perhaps without any related imagery...

T-shirt was the first thing I thought, although I'm not sure about your reservations about the imagry. I think some baggy M basketball shorts with a buldge at the bottom...

Yeah, as I type that I realize that I couldn't wear that anywhere. Still think that slogan should be on a T with a picture of the banner if we win it - the final fulfillment of what they didn't accomplish when they changed the culture.

First off, they get the wrap for the entire 20 years when truthfully it was one player off their team and a bunch of players after them.

But besides all of that. Just the attitude they played with, the passion they have, it gets me fired up everytime I see them in an interview.

This championship should be about THESE players, but I don't think it's wrong to have a little piece of you feel like this is for the Fab Five as well. I don't think it's wrong to hope those guys get a little more satisfaction from this team than any other team.

I'm not sure why, I guess it's just because in a way they "made" Michigan Basketball. Like it or not, for better or worse...they kind of put us on the map. Which is crazy considering we'd won a national championship right before they arrived. We have Cazzie and some great former players.

However, I'm not sure one team in America identifies with one team or era as much as we do. Houston and UNLV are the only schools I can think of...maybe NC St.

Anyway, again, this should be about THIS team. But as Corey Person hurls the ball into the air with 1.5 seconds on Monday...I hope I catch a glimpse of the Fab 5 somewhere in the upper deck hugging and celebrating along with the team. Webber included.
