The video was posted before, but without the follow on comment so hopefully you won’t catch too much flack.

My friend in Harbaugh’s high school friends circle says a new contract is expected to be signed within the week.
That’s 3rd hand but it’s what I got. I believe it.

For an outlandish subscription fee yes.
You can believe it or not but he’s a close contact.   His initial feedback when this came up was raiders were real because Davis loves him, sarah and Jim met in Las Vegas, she lived there for 5 years, but it was up to Michigan to lose him - the stuff on nil etc… is all true. He wants to be able to compete. Anyone who knows Harbaugh knows he’s massively competitive. I know it from intramural basketball but that’s a different story

If he's hitting the road recruiting this week, it seems sorta obvious he's staying, which makes the refusal of either Harbaugh or the Athletic Department to confirm the obvious look silly.

Neither Harbaugh or the AD "owe" anybody outside Fort Schembechler any information, but if you don't want to have to deal with nutty rumors swirling around you, allowing an information vacuum to persist is the most ineffectual way of dealing with it.

"still proven to be unfounded jargon"

WTF are you talking about? What's "unfounded jargon?"

"The class of 22 is already complete."

Not true. Michigan is still recruiting Josh Conerly, they're still recruiting Michigan "commit" Kevonte Henry, who is still taking visits to other schools, and they're going after that grad transfer DL from Tulane.

“nutty rumors swirling around you, allowing an information vacuum to persist is the most ineffectual way of dealing with it.”

So if you can understand this fine if not fine.  This has been said over and over.  And it has been proven that it isn’t the most ineffectual way of dealing with it.  Last year he did NOT, come out and deal with the rumors that were swirling and we still had a great recruiting class.  Lastly, whatever you believe is fine with me because I don’t have a problem with anything that you surmise.  Negative recruiting will go on no matter what our coach does.

I doubt fan rumors really affect either Harbaugh nor the AD at all. I used to have some friends within the coaching circles back in the Lloyd era and it was amazing to me how differently they viewed what was going on with the football team in comparison with the media and this blog. They were completely disinterested in the rumor mill. It wasn't anywhere in their minds.

He has to keep recruiting regardless of the outcome of his job search. If he leaves, which looks increasingly unlikely as the days go by, then he'll stop recruiting. Until then, he has a job and a responsibility to do it to the best of his ability.

My biggest problem with this isn't so much the time that it is taking to get a new deal done or even that Jim could potentially be leaving, but the perception it can give recruits and how it can be used negatively by other coaching staffs. The way this is being handled gives off a perception of dysfunction and instability. No one has any idea what is going on, one day it looks like he's leaving and next day it looks like he's staying. I wasn't so worried about the NFL rumors being used to sway recruits into thinking Jim is leaving but that the admin and staff are kind of dysfunctional. If you're one of our big rivals or competing with Michigan for a recruit, you just point out how unstable everything appears. Doesn't have to be true at all, but perception can be important. Hopefully, they are handling everything internally and all the recruits could be informed of what's going on. I'm just a little worried that if the admin and staff don't have all their bases covered that this could be an issue going forward with negative recruiting.

Am I overthinking this?

Yes. Overthinking. The vast majority of recruits are committed to personal relationships and not perceptions. Sometimes they get burned because of that, but Harbaugh isn't going to do that to a kid. A few are committed to the institution itself, and for them they will deal with a coaching change. I would be shocked if a single potential recruit woke up this morning worrying about Harbaugh->NFL rumors.
