Is Jim Harbaugh a spy for MBB?
According to Jim that's a big "Hell no." Interesting response.

He can be a douche...
See Lions game...
See accusations of UM stearing players into certain majors...

You Lions fans are still upset that your coach can't handle a manly handshake?

double post

Really? This is worthly of a newspaper article? Who cares.
February 27th, 2012 at 4:55 PM ^
Well there were those on this board that theorized that Harbaugh might become the next HC once the Hoke era was over. His comment, however, seems to be yet another example of the openly hostile relationship he has with his alma mater. If this is all about being snubbed for the previous coaching vacancy it seems extremely childish.

I'm a pretty thin-skinned Michigan fan, and I didn't read it that way. To me this was just Harbaugh-being-Harbaugh: intense, aggressive, competitive, slightly obnoxious fratboy response. No reason to read into it more than it is; I don't think it's a conscious dig at Michigan.

You may be right but generally when I see people frame their reponses in the negative like that I have a tendency to think it says more about the entity on the negative end than the one on the positive end. Supportive statements tend to have a more positive spin than a negative one. Or it could be that I'm overly analytical.

Notice I asked if this was worthy of a newspaper article and not mgoboard thread. I already know how low the bar is for people looking for drama where there clearly is none on mgboard.

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross would be proud that you have finally reached stage 5 of mgoboard grief, acceptance.

The MIchigan alum you hammer today might be the one you wish would come here in five years. You never really know what is going to happen. If Harbaugh got frozen out by Lloyd Carr, he certainly wouldn't be the first person it happened to, and would have every reason to be a bit torqued. Nobody gave any more to the Maize and Blue than Harbaugh did when he played in Ann Arbor.
Hopefully, Brady Hoke coaches here for fifteen or twenty years and brings home a few National Championships, making this all a moot point, but we really don't have enough facts around Harbaugh's situation to judge it.
I prefer to remember Harbaugh's peformance at QB, and respect the great job he did at Stanford and in San Francisco so far. YMMV.
February 28th, 2012 at 10:38 AM ^
Hoke is obviously doing a great job, but if he coaches here for 20 years, he'll be something like 73 yrs old during the last season. Even being 68 after 15 years seems a bit much.

Probably missed a deadline & threw something together.

Jim Harbaugh has relatives employed by other Big Ten universities?!
He doesn't get it.
February 27th, 2012 at 4:45 PM ^
make a story out of anything. Tom Creans wife is a Harbaugh end of story. That is why Jim would be there helping Tom in any fashion as it is.

February 27th, 2012 at 4:56 PM ^
Meh, non-story. What's actually interesting is that Tom Crean put up a big sign in the IU practice facility that says "The Team, The Team, The Team!" after being educated about Bo by his father-in-law Jack Harbaugh.

eff him, never want him to coach here.
February 27th, 2012 at 5:17 PM ^
Even looking at the photo, Jim Harbaugh hasn't lost that intensity for which he is rather famous. Clearly, he intended to carry the living hell out of the chairs and do it better than anyone on the court. This is definitely Jim being Jim.

Everyone is way too bitter about his comment about Michigan football's academics...which was solidified by that majors list that came out last week. If anyone has earned the right to criticize his alma mater, it is Harbaugh. The guy is arguably the greatest coach in all levels of football, and he is a proud alumnus. Just because he took a crack at the Michigan football academics doesnt disparage this.
Was it self serving while he was at Stanford? Absolutely. This doesn't mean it wasn't true and he didnt have the right to say it. If we take a look at the list of player majors from the 1980s, I have a sneaking suspicion you will find it more in line with the student population than the current team.
The undergrad education here is great. The overall university is elite. The athletic department is top notch in every regard (except baseball). Be proud of it and don't be so insecure when one of our most successful alumni says something that isn't 100% in line with HAIL MICHIGAN!!!!
February 27th, 2012 at 7:15 PM ^
His statement at Stanford about michigan football academics where incredibly self serving but, the maint hing that bothered me about it a month later ESPN ran an article about Stanford steering atheletes towards easier majors It's one thing to call someone for doing something jacked up but you make sure you're not doing the same thing. I don't blame the guy he wants to succed and is doing a pretty good job of it with or without his Michigan ties.
February 27th, 2012 at 5:29 PM ^
I will always respect and admire what he did as a player and for that he will always be a Michigan Man to me. However his actions and statements about Michigan over the course of his coaching career have me viewing him as a turncoat of sorts. I realize that Crean is his brother in law but Crean is also a Sparty (considers izzo to be best friend) and therefore the antithesis of Michigan.
This just makes me that much happier we chose coach Hoke.
February 27th, 2012 at 6:00 PM ^
Some of you folks take this stuff way too seriously.
I love Michigan. I attended Michigan. However, I don't get all spitting mad when somebody says something bad about Michigan. It just seems a little crazy to me to let something so minor upset you.
February 27th, 2012 at 6:19 PM ^
Also, I love Michigan, but family before Michigan, and Crean is family to Harbaugh. If he didn't say hell no, there'd be a problem. I like Harbaugh still, and wish the best for him.

If he's a spy, we need him to infiltrate some better teams than Indiana.
February 27th, 2012 at 6:45 PM ^
Indiana did beat Michigan once this year
February 27th, 2012 at 7:20 PM ^
Then maybe Jim is a spy for Indiana! be right back gonna right an article!

Wait a minute......Indiana is playing a non-conference game this late in the season?
February 28th, 2012 at 3:08 AM ^
This was an idiotic question to ask him and a completely appropraite response. He'd have to be an unbelievable douchebag to screw over his brother-in-law like that.
Crean is family, and Harbaugh was hanging out with family. To ask him if he was a spy for Michigan basketball was absurd.
