Jaylen Brown possibly down to Cal/Michigan

Submitted by WorldwideTJRob on
Paul Biancardi just said on ESPN Recruiting Nation that sources close to Jaylen Brown's family say his final decision will come down to Cal and Michigan. Just another good sign today that our Bball future is looking bright. All hail Lord Beilein!!!

Sometimes recruitments that aren't played out openly in the media reflect a kid who is thoughtful, unselfish, and indifferent to the media spotlight - kids who see the big picture...

I take this as very encouraging news, as Michigan and Cal have a lot of similarities.  If it's true, Michigan should have a legit shot.

I'm not going to start getting my hopes up too high, but if you add Brown to this roster...wow.  That's a helluva top 4 (along with Walton, LeVert & Irvin), and a helluva bench too.

Oh I completely disagree.  When a recruit chooses Kentucky or Duke or Kansas you sort of just shrug your shoulders and understand.  Those are the blue bloods, have great facilities great atmospheres and give you the best shot to win in your one year.

Losing out to Cal would hurt so much more because it meant we had a legitimate shot.

Wherever he ends up going, I just hope he decides soon. If there really is an open spot I'd hate to lose Kenny Williams waiting and then see Brown end up somewhere else too.

I don't. Cal can tell him that he will be the go to star. Michigan can't do that. I know cal has a good recruiting class but I think that was a pretty bad team last yr without any real returning stars

I honestly don't think he would be the top option over Caris here. Not saying brown isn't potentially a better player but a senior leader seems to always take the role. Not to mention that Irvin will take a lot of shots. Probably won't play as many minutes here. He would have to accept that and do what Oubre seemed to do at Kansas this yr. He was their most talented player but didn't score a ton of points and dominate the ball all game

I don't think Beilein will do that. Jaylen Brown isn't really a shooter. He and Irvin take different shots. He would take more of what Caris does and I don't know if Caris will step aside. Recruiting rankings don't necessarily mean that they will out play established players as far as stats go. Their draft position will be high bc of potential and how they fit the more open NBA game.

Your not breaking anything truthful.

Michigan has a veteran potential lottery pick.  Could Brown be better than that?  Possibly.  What are the odds?  Again, possibly down the road (end of year/next year)

This is Leverts team.  HE is the star.

Don't follow them closely, but they had a rollercoaster season last year.  Went 10-3 in the non-conference with decent wins over Wyoming and Syracuse (and decent losses to Wisconsin and Texas).  Then started Pac-12 play 1-6, including a blowout loss to an awful USC team (and blowouts against UCLA and .500 ASU).  Then won 5 straight including a win over UCLA, then lost 5 of 6 down the stretch.

Not sure what role injuries played, but an up and down team that ended up 7-11 in conference play and didn't beat anybody with a pulse outside of the Bruins.

tell us about how he'd fit with Cal. I think he has some friends there? With our jam-packed roster for next year does he get more freedom/play there?

One the things Jaylen wants to work on is his shot.    Beilein is definitely the top shooting coach in the nation.
