Jay Paterno mocks James Earl Jones and Michigan

Submitted by Yo_Blue on

Jay Paterno, recently elected Trustee at Penn State took some time out this week from his pedophile denial to write an article for the State College newspaper.  In it he talks about tradition and the excitement of having ESPN's College Gameday on campus.  He also downgrades the opponent who is "only ranked #19".

Paterno talks about the pride an humbleness of Penn State while slamming Michigan, our air of arrogance, and the James Earl Jones video among other things.  At least Paterno never mentions his dad.  That's the only point in his favor.

Sorry but the James Earl Jones video intro before home games should be shelved for now. Maybe wait until they can actually beat OSU.

Penn State is a disgusting institution. We should be playing their B1G replacement Pitt tomorrow. I sincerely cannot believe that athletic department was not shut down permanently.

For every story that gives you faith in humanity there's another that takes it away. Decades of serial child rape handwaved into a bad memory. No penance, no corrective steps. No acknowledgement of the environment that led to the toxic cesspool forming in their own house.

Meh. The JEJ video is to hype the fans. This letter to PSU fans is the same. One difference: JEJ is almost universally loved in this country; the name Paterno is almost universally reviled (outside of Happy Valley).

I hate stuff like this. He only wrote the letter because he perceives that PSU is a better squad than us this year. Seems as if he has bought into the hype. Where was the letter after they got curb stomped by us last year??

tl;dr....... I tried to follow, I really did. About halfway through, I sincerely lost interest. Guess what. You're dad was an enabler. From here on out, you can never play the part of the victim.

I'm so glad Penn State learned their lesson.  Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I thought the point of discipline was to teach a lesson that an individual and/or institution can and should learn from.  PSU was sanctioned to supposedly make a point of how athletics shouldn't be placed ahead of morality.  The sanctions were randomly dropped, which is like letting someone out early for good behavior, and the reasoning was that the athletes that remained shouldn't be punished for things they had no part in.  (As an aside, that reasoning undermines the opportunity to teach a lesson on an institutional level.)  In response, not only does the offending institution hire a Paterno to its board of trustees, but an unrepentant Paterno who maintains his father's innocence in the face of concrete contrary evidence.  This just confirms what I already presume about the NCAA, the general fans and the education system which is 1) that in football winning=moral perception up to the point where immorality cannot be denied, 2) fans typically overlook terrible behavior if a coach/program is successful on the field to the point of delusion and 3) the NCAA and universities adjust their punishments based on who/what is making them money.  And players still can't get paid.  Rant over, screw PSU.

Side note, was listening to satellite radio at lunch yesterday and they were making their picks and one of the females they have pick said she was picking penn state because they were the lesser of two evils. I almost ran my truck off the road.

You know, yet again, the inability of some Penn State fans to have their own version of "Vergangenheitsbewaltigung", if you will, simply amazes me. Until they admit to themselves what went on at that place for decades, there will always be an issue - a huge, glaring issue - that I have with that portion of the Nittany Lion fanbase that subscribes to a now-defunct notion of Paterno and that past culture.

I don’t believe he is mocking anyone.

Second...

I believe he calling attention to a view of Michigan that many have. Arrogance. He is an asshole for doing it, but it’s true.

It is something Michigan struggles with.

Doesn’t mean you need to act like it. Arrogance is off putting.

Just cause your the best at something doesn’t mean people like you. So, no. You would suck at social interaction... while being the best.

So, in this article Jay Paterno takes time out from his child molestation cover up duties to rip on Michigan. What a classy piece of work this waste of sperm and egg is. He actually talks shit about Michigan's video hyping the University before games. How awful of us...

No mention is made of Penn State's Joe Paterno worship video played during the Rutgers game a year or two ago.

Yeah, the video praising Joe Pa they played within weeks of new information coming to light about the sicko covering up child rape for decades... Not kidding. Super classy. The families of the victims thank you Penn State... Good to see you "learned your lesson." Great message sent by the NCAA as well to lift your sanctions early to appease the money god.

This is the most delusional, fucked up fan base in all of sports.

If there is a god. Penn State loses this game.

My prediction? Michigan 24 Pedo State 21. To all Penn State fans sick enough to elect this ass to a position at your university, go to hell. C'mon god, we're waiting...

Does anyone else have issues with multiple posts?  Swear I only clicked save once after the verification prompt.  Oh well.  I mean it so sincerely, I'll say it three times.

This attitude; and the vast majority of people associated with that university have it, is the reason why that program should have been nuked to Hell and back. They couldn't shut the fuck up then, and they certainly won't shut the fuck now that they've been let of the hook and are relevant again. Fuck them and the NCAA.

PSU has replaced OSU as my most hated rival. PSU is a digusting cesspool and I really hate the fact how fast it has recovered from the horrible acts its football program and that hypocrite JoePa allowed to happen for decades. I'm just sick of losing to OSU but love the rivalry.

As more a plea to P-ew students for good fan behavior. Win or lose, Paterno is concerned the game attendees may pull disgraceful stunts on national broadcast. In fact, he may be concerned about his own players exhibiting bad behavior on the field. PSU is a good state school but it's no Michigan, and Paterno's commentary is apropos for the school which, I must admit, makes some decent ice cream and offers that up as a major field of study.
