...is the unfortunate poster child of morally wrong NCAA rules.
It also strikes me as unfair that Jamal was kicked out of the NCAA yet Michael Oher was lauded and they eventually made a book and movie about him. I guess the Tuohy's knew how to keep certain things secret and get around the rules better than Jamal's "adopting" father in Seattle .
However, Jamal's ineligibility might have saved us a couple more years of Ellerbe and someone not named Beilein would now be our coach. Silver lining, I guess.

Well, after the NCAA investigated the Crawford situation they concluded that no violation had occurred. Crawford could have come back to school afterwards, but probably just wanted to make some money.
If I remember correctly, they kicked Avery Queen and another player off the team that year for rule violations......so it wouldn't really surprise me if they also "encouraged" Crawford to go pro.

What are you talking about? The NCAA investigated Crawford and found that he was guilty of accepting $15,000 in extra benefits. He could not return without paying back the money. As he had no source of income, he had no choice but to leave.

Retraction of my previous statement:
According to Wikipedia, the NCAA did conclude there was no wrong-doing.

They found no wrongdoing on Michigan's end, but they never reinstated Crawford. We appealed and got the dollar amount to go down a little (to like $12K), but that was as far as the NCAA would budge.

The kicked Kevin Gaines off the team for having a fist-fight on the side of M-23.

Well, Michael Oher was legally adopted by the Tuohy's, which would mean that any money, lodging, or food they gave him was no different than if his mother was doing it. The guy doing such things for Crawford was not a legal guardian - he was just a guy.

Now that is one Jamal Crawford that deserves to up-vote himself!

The sickest part of that sequence was sitting in the Blue Apple with 6 seconds left and my friend called the exact sequence that would lead to the Hawks win.

I hate to point this out but....if I coached the Suns I would have told my whole team that "if Crawford gets the ball then everyone collapse on him 5 on 1"...if you have ever watched him before you know he isn't passing that shot away.

It was nuts when he made the shot.
That said, fuck Jamal Crawford and the horse he rode in on. His 17-game experience at M and the heat he brought on the program leave me with a *very* bitter taste in my mouth.

You should focus your anger at Brian Ellerbe, who recruited Crawford even when Washington, Washington State, Gonzaga, Oregon and Oregon State all took a pass.

There are around 10 people I'd blame for the "heat" on Michigan's program before I blamed Crawford.

I'm sure he, in his 8 or so games, did more for the Michigan hoops program than you ever will.

Still a great player. He has part of a huge recruiting class that only saw Lavell Blanchard stick around for all four years.

Oh, how quickly we forget the immortal Gavin Groninger.
