Jalen Wilson to Kansas

Oh, well.

There are positive rumblings lately about Franz Wagner, so hopefully Juwan can pull that one off.

Jalen Wilson to one of the dirtiest programs, payola-wise, in the NCAA.

Not saying he got paid but I guess we can all relax a bit if anybody was worried our basketball recruiting "efforts" might change now that Beilein is gone.

With Beilein in place the recruiting pitch could be "no, we won't pay you now BUT you're going to get excellent coaching and if you're even close to being as good as your evaluations would indicate you'll be in the NBA in two years or less.  And you'll probably be picked in the first round too."

Not sure what the pitch is today with Howard.  I just know it apparently does not involve money (yet) or at least his war chest isnt as robust as Bill Self's is.

Kansas absolutely tells these guys they'll be in the league soon.  The part where they talk up coaching and development isn't unique to Beilein.

What submarined this was both Beilein and Yak leaving.  Which is fine; it happens.  I think KU pays players and all that, but this feels like the veiled complaining about Howard and "results" that I feared would happen the minute he was signed.

You could do worse, of course, but I don't think it's insane.

He has been to two Final Fours in sixteen seasons at Kansas.

There's a good chance that he and the school cheat at a high level in order to (along with angelic "Coach K") draw talent from places like Chicago.

The Big 12 has often been a second-tier hoops conference. His record there has gotten him favorable draws in the tournament. Based on some quick research KU has been a #1 seed seven times during his tenure.

When you look at all his advantages, it's hard to call him anything but an underachiever.

Cool. He can look forward to playing on a team with more talent than 95% of the other schools and still lose in the 2nd round. Bill Self is not good at coaching or development. At least his bag men are top flight.

Can’t blame him. Howard’s am unknown and Wilson had committed to JB and then considered KU and UNC after he decommitted. Obviously values stability.

Gonna be a long 3-4 years until recruiting can get back on track.

This 1 man class is a finger in the broken dam.

JH is already behind the 8 ball on next year’s class and I don’t predict Penny Hardaway bag man class.

So at best, we are looking to 2021 until JH can have his first real shot at a class, and then another year until they are actually ready to contribute.

So 4 years until we can start competing with MSU again, while we try to stay competitive with Purdue, OSU, Maryland, Illinois, etc.

I hate being patient - we had to be patient for over a decade until JB arrived.

I guess that’s why our refrain as UM sports fans is “wait ‘til next year!”

We called them…

You can focus on the clouds or the blue sky.

We are 1 year removed from JB's best recruiting class. Teske, Castleton and Johns we're already great players/very exciting prospects and they just got one of the best big man coaches from the Association. We have young'uns in the backcourt that have shown glimpses. Oh, and a senior Simpson

Oh no, I am not that concerned with next year at all.  In fact, I think the team is going to be better than most people are predicting for sure.  A team with a senior PG, stretch 5, and an athletic big body SF who has essentially started for 2 years, along with a talented group of 4 sophomores, isn't going to shit the bed and miss the tournament.  In fact, I can definitely see this team making the Sweet 16.

I am more concerned about 2020-2021.  There seems to be very little depth once X and Tekse are gone, and if Livers explodes, he could be gone too.

I predict Juwan is going to have to hit the grad transfer circuit hard to plug holes and get some ready-to-contribute talent in for the 20-21 season, while he gets his recruiting feet under him.

I still predict it's gonna be at least 4 years until the team is back as the best/one of the best in the B1G on a year-in/year-out basis.
