Jalen Rose - Players' Tribune
Some nice sunday morning reading.
Pretty good article written by Jalen refelcting on the tournament runs with the fab five. Nothing that I don't think isn't public knowledge already, but still a good read.
in 1993 was tremendous basketball. What a game.
I still remember that one pretty clearly - excellent game indeed. Webber and Rose were about half of Michigan's points, as I recall (with Chris Webber garnering almost 30 by himself, as I recall). It was Dale Brown and Jamal Mashburn that came up big on offense for the Wildcats in that game, with some contributions from Travis Ford (that I can remember who played for Kentucky over 20 years ago is sad somehow).
Actually, the man who coached that Kentucky team shall be coaching the other majoy in-state team today.
To this day, I hear from the idiots here that if Mashburn doesn't foul out, kentucky wins. I tell them that Ford shouldn't have been shooting foul shots; therefore, the game should have never gone to OT.

Interesting tidbit: we beat Kentucky without making a three (we were 0-4). It's almost impossible to imagine a team playing now (in a 45-minute game no less) attempting so few and winning without making one. The odd thing was that we actually had a lot of good shooters.
The box score is here.

They were the anti-Beilein team. They ran-ran-ran, took it to the post hard, and defended the post well. They were not a perimeter team at all. When they tried to be, it was a disaster.
Every time Jalen jacked up a three, I held my breath. It cost them the momentum agianst Duke in the NC game in '92, and the game itself at the end against Arkansas in the '94 Regional Final.

Kind of, but against Kentucky we didn't push the tempo. They were one of the fastest-paced teams in the country and were scoring 90-100 points in the tournament. We held them to 71 in regulation.
I think it was more that we just preferred to go inside (understandable given our two future NBA star big men).

Why not talk about the Fab Five? Jalen is one of my favorites so I like seeing this kind of stuff.
Why not, it's a great story.

dunking from just inside the free throw line on a fast break.
What a game of great teams!

That was against UNC. Amazing he tried that in the national title game, looking back on it.
