Jaelin Llewellyn to Michigan?
Per Matt Norlander, looks like Michigan is about to land a commitment. Dominoes starting to fall.
This morning, Sam Webb was very suggestive that Llewellyn is coming to Michigan. No gut feeling though.
Is this extremely similar to Mike Smith?
Well Llewellyn is a slightly more basketball sized 6' 2" vs Smith, who only hit 6" with the big hair.
Smith was a hell of a player though.
Some similarities but Llewellyn seems much more clearly a 2-guard vs. a PG. He did a lot of creating off the bounce at Princeton but unclear if that'll translate to the Big Ten where there are better athletes so he may end up being more limited to catch-and-shoots, attacking closeouts.
I think he's going to fill the Eli Brooks role.
Uhh... hang on. Not sure if Michigan will accept Princeton credits. Michigan apparently offering a 6 to 1 ratio deal. "Ivy" my ass!
It's the remix to admissions
Jaelin made his decisions
Ivy League is what it takes to get some fuckin permission
(seeing how far I can take this bit)
I'm here for it!
Me too.
25th ranked player in the portal.
Position of need.
Welcome young fella!
Unfortunately it looks like it's in place of the 9th ranked player...
And as we all know those ratings are perfect predictors of future performance
Shannon would’ve filled a bigger hole on our roster. This basically puts are backcourt size the same as last year. Think the kid can play but to say how things played out isn’t underwhelming would be a lie.
What if the reason Shannon isn’t coming is because him coming might have pushed Terrance Williams out
What if the reason is credits, which it is?
How do you know that? Because we also had a report saying the credits issue was one or two classes in the spring which Shannon was good with. Which completely unconfirmed report is the one to trust?
I’m a T-Will fan and wouldn’t want him to leave, but getting a 6’6” wing who can shoot & defend wouldn’t be the worst trade off in the world. I just get leery of grabbing a bunch of low-major guys and hoping they blossom on this level. We know Shannon can compete at this level.
Where do you find the portal rankings?
I like the addition. Fits a need and provides good guard depth.
Really wanted Shannon as well but it sounds like that ship has sailed. Whether that was due to admissions/transfer credits issues or NIL, it seems clear that Michigan will always be behind the rest of the Power 5 programs in landing non-grad transfers which is frustrating to say the least.
From what little I've read and seen Shannon's situation was admissions/transfer credits, which is sadly unsurprising at this point. I do think the AD will put some pressure on UM admissions but this issue is sadly one that cuts across all students and isn't unique to athletes at Michigan.
Only two more days until the transfer portal is closed to play this fall so we should know something pretty soon on everyone on the roster except Houstan and Diabate. So, if nobody leaves, we must be expecting to only get one of them back.
Yes & no unfortunately…read yesterday where the NCAA can still give out waivers to kids that transfer after May 1st to make them eligible for next season. Still might see someone leave the program after that date.
Ive heard that too but they would have to probably have some circumstances behind their reason not to file by the deadline. I feel as if nobody transfers now, they won’t until at least after fall practice is over and they see where they stand from a potential playing time spot.
hahahaha- have you seen what the NCAA does to help Michigan by way of waivers? we wait 11x as long as everyone else. and this board goes nuts. see patterson, shea.
Is Williams College a great academic school?
Not sure if serious…it’s the best liberal arts school in the country
Honestly had no idea!
Not to be confused with this guy
It’s impressive this guy never got punched on camera. He dragged so hard on people who had just lost court cases for being idiots.
Rusty the Baliff always had his back.
This is an outstanding addition of needed talent.
A talented guy who will help fill a role, and hopefully UM is still looking around.
We've heard the drumbeat about admissions being an issue with transfers in football and we're seeing it with basketball as well. I do wonder if these types of transfers becoming more common will lead to more pressure from the AD on admissions to reconsider the draconian approach they take toward transfer credits. I know it's in vogue to talk about the academic standards of UM compared to other schools but your average Calc or Psychology classes are going to be the same across the board at most P5 schools, and it's unlikely that what a student learned one place would dramatically limit their ability to apply it elsewhere.
To add to this--and I will duck after saying it--I don't see why Michigan needs to be pickier than Illinois. Shannon playing for the Illini will be frustrating (I say repeating myself from another thread). This would not be the case of a marginal academic transferring credits to, say, Troy University.
The Ann Arbor-Mississauga pipeline. Can't wait for the "Hello" post. Welcome Jaelin!
A good pickup in the wake of the Shannon situation. Welcome aboard Jaelin!!
Hell yeah!!
Llewellyn to Michigan? Ok.
Emoni Bates announcing to Michigan within the next 3 days. Book it. Come back to this comment.
This was already posted on the board by the time you posted this.
He has officially committed
So who is better? Shannon or Llewellyn?
Well well, Llew Llew is in yn.
