(ISO) Famous quotes from Michigan Football

Submitted by Mgthefrenchy on February 18th, 2021 at 3:36 PM

I asked Dr Sapp and we could not find it (I also spent part of my day on his youtube channel trying to see if I could find it).

I tried google but - No luck.

Maybe you guy will be able to give me the exact quotes and details.

I am looking for that Coach (Bo?) response to the question "Do you have a good class this year?" and the answer was something like "Come ask in Twenty and only I will be able to answer that question".

Anyone? Source? You are all lovely.

I was able to find the more develop one:
"We won’t know how good this football team will be until 15, 20, 25, 30 years from now  (...) and we know what kind of men you are, and we know what kind of husbands you become, what kind of fathers you become, then we'll know how good this football team is."

Whether my wife thinks I'm a good husband and whether my kids think I am a good father are two different inquiries of two different audiences.  I would agree that being a good husband is part of being a good father and being a good father is part of being a good husband.

It looks like the other guy already found a source, but I could have sworn I remember reading that quote in one of Bacon's books, probably Bo's Lasting Lessons.

Maybe . . . but the key question is what are your results? If you (and the team) is getting better than by all means keep doing the same thing at practice. If not then you may need to change things. Of course in team sports you can practice the same, improve, but still lose to superior talent. At that point you may want to apply the quote to your talent acquisition process.

One of my favorite Michigan football quotes went something like:

A  disgruntled Joe Milton telling teammates during the Rutgers game “he was transferring out and will drop 50 on Jim Harbaugh and Michigan.”

Legendary Mad Magician Bob Chappuis, on his experience in WWII, parachuting from his dying B-25 behind enemy lines in Italy in 1945:

"Everyone called us heroes, but what idiot wouldn't jump out of a burning plane?"

This isn’t what you’re looking for, but one of my favorite Michigan quotes is from Fritz Crisler—I think it’s as applicable today as it was back in the 1940s:

”Offense is poise; defense is frenzy.”

“Fuck ‘em, if they can’t take a joke.”

Me - as a UM Graduate School GA, after making a joke in class about the stuffy faculty and their old-ass way of doing things (circa 1990)

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes.

Here's a quote (with some paraphrasing) that still haunts Michigan football:

"You need to establish the run."

Here's another:

"When you throw a pass, three things can happen. Two of them are bad."

Oh, and:

"Our goal is to win the Big Ten championship." (It was strongly implied that nothing mattered beyond that.)
