If Hackett reels in Harbaugh or Miles will he get permanent AD job?

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

Harbaugh to Michigan would be one of the greatest college coaching hiring feats ever and Miles to Michigan would definitely be one of the big ten biggest hires ever. Will Hackett be given the permanent job if he pulls it off or will people still be leary of him given that he is a CEO like you know who? How much would we be willing to deal with coaching endowments and advertisements to help pay for caoching salaries in the future if Hackett continues down Brandon's road in that area?

I'm the first to admit that I don't know much about Hackett. Because I don't know a lot about him (other than what I've seen so far dice he took over), I'm willing to give him a chance. You can't paint all people with similar background with the same brush, and just because he has a business background doesn't mean he will approach the job in the same manner as Brandon.

We will never know. Each time the question is raised Hackett can say "I got Harbaugh and that's all you need to know" Soon after Dave Brandon will reappear on twitter claiming he made the hire possible and will demand to be the person receiving the national championship trophy first when we win in a couple years.

I don't think there's going to be any "reeling in." If JH wants to coach college ball again, he'll come. If he wants to stay in the pros, he'll stay. He's not going to be swayed or "landed" by an AD's savviness, and now that Brandon's gone he's probably going to be amenable to any of the AD's that are routinely showing up on lists of leading candidates. I believe Bates and possibly Manuel were on teams coached by Jim's father, for example (although so was Brandon).

So this was never going to be a feather in any new AD's cap, although it would appear so on the surface. They're not going to be a hot commodity because of that "killer hire of Jim Harbaugh." For lack of a better term, JH and UM sell themselves to each other. So this timing and interim approach may be working out nicely. Bates could come in 2015 and not worry that he "missed out on making the big hire." He was going to have little to do with it anyway.

Any other coach, however, and that story totally changes. If JH doesn't want to come here then absolutely Hackett needs to flex every CEO-savvy muscle to make a quality consolation prize happen. For THAT perhaps he should be awarded the AD position if we wants it. But getting Harbaugh? I think Harbaugh (or JACK Harbaugh!!!) deserves to be rewarded with permanent AD if he agrees to come, in that case.

That he will stay until things are stable. Coach in place. Good ad lined up. UM back where it belongs. Then he will ride off into the sunset like a good cowboy.

Come back, Shane! Come back!*

Either one I think the job is his if he wants it. He can also have my daughters hand in marriage. Granted she's still in high school, but she knows how important Michigan is to me. I think she'd take one for the team.

Pisses excellence. He is a consistent winner in the toughest conference. If he came here 10/12 win seasons would be the norm with 8 wins during reloading years. I think we'd get about the same performance as with JH. Maybe just a little less, but he would easily be the best coach we've had in the last 20 years. He's a far better coach than Lloyd ever was.

Will stay for as long as Harbaugh wants him to stay. Harbaugh will take the job under his conditions. I could see Harbaugh wanting a top salary, total control of the football operations, and be on the committee to hire a long term AD (his boss). What better way to know you will get along with your "boss" than to be on the hiring committee.

was able to seal the deal, but I wouldn't call it a "feat." If Harbaugh wants to come here he's gotta already be leaning 90% already. Hackett may be able to pull the last few little strings, but I wouldn't call it any sort of heroic effort. I'd call Harbaugh the hero in the situation and make him AD, if that's the hypothetical award.

Not sure that I'd chalk Hackett bringing in JH to be the all-time biggest get. People praised Gene Smith for bringing in Urbz, but a bucket of fecal matter could've convinced him to take a big job at a major program loaded with talent for $4M/year. His only other potential suitors were in college and it's obvious he wanted back in. Gene Smith should've been thrown out with Tressel.

If Hackett convinces JH to come, good for him, but I'm guessing it's not really the work of a genius AD. JH is going to make the decision he wants to make and I would surmise that he can name his own terms (within some level of reason) if he wants the job. Point is, if JH wants to come, then as long as it's not Dave Brandon at the helm driving people away, I don't see it making any difference who the AD is.

Now if JH takes the job conditional on a Hackett staying or naming a specific replacement, then we have something to talk about.

Does Hackett want to be permanent AD?  More to the point, would Harbaugh or Miles want him as permanent AD?  Those are the relevant questions.  I would think one benefit of his interim status is that the head coach could at least give input into who his permanent boss would be.

I think he'll get things set up and running well throughout the department and then make a second great hire by leading the search for his own replacement. If he can pull off Harbaugh, he can pull off getting a great AD.

Read yesterday's posts? People are already in love because he did what is and should be expected and held a competent press conference.

He lands Harbaugh he gets a statue.

JH will decide if Hackett stays on as AD. Or he will let the University know which candidate he would like to work for. The key for the deal to be made was getting rid of Brandon.

I'll give him a job if he gets jim to AA

It may be a blowjob, but it's still a job, and I'm a team player as long as you guys can keep your mouths shut.

If he gets harbaugh then that is a definite yes. If he gets miles then he should be seriously considered. If he gets schiano, he should be fired that day.
