I met Blake Bars' father yesterday
Early yesterday morning I was running headed for a meeting and had to get some items from Kroger for the meeting. I was wearing my Maize Michigan Climalite T-Shirt and stopped in an aisle to get some cups. A man all the way at the end of the aisle stopped and yelled, "hey nice shirt" and asked me if I went to the game last week. I told him "thanks" and that no I didn't but that I was planning on going up for the Nebraska game. Then he told me that his son just committed there and they're planning on going to the Nebraska or Ohio game. Immeditately I knew who he was, shook his hand and introduced myself. I told him I was excited about his son coming to Michigan. He was a very nice man and appeared to be stoked about what's going on at Michigan these days based on the fact that he shouted across an entire aisle in a grocery store. it was a pretty cool way to start off my day.

Thanks for sharing your story. My dad and I were talking about how amaizeing the O-Line haul from 2012 will be.

I think I surprised him when I knew who his son was but he really seemed genuinely excited about the whole situation and I didn't grill him with questions because I was kind of in a hurry but hopefully the encounter gives him peace of mind that his son has made a great choice.

you might have surprised him by knowing who his son is, but how many times do you hear stories where a recruit says something along the lines of "When I went to Michigan, everyone knew who I was, and that doesn't happen everywhere else" or things of that nature? It seems like Michigan fans are about as well informed about their recruits as any fanbase in the country. Geez, I wonder how that happened.... :P

Cool stuff! I'm guessing this happened in Nashville, right?

Actually, turns out that both their families split a timeshare in Yemen. Who'd a thunk it?

The aggressive sales pitch during those "free trips" always gets everyone

I didn't believe you the first time, but your persistance is convincing.

Honestly, I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Yemen are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Yes this happened in Nashville. I've lived here for almost 6 years now and work about 5 minutes from MBA where Blake goes to school.

Belle Meade Kroger or Green Hills Kroger?
September 18th, 2011 at 1:33 PM ^
Or one of the other 200 in the area ...

No way a guy who sends his kid to Montgomery Bell Academy shops anywhere but those two Krogers.

Green Hills Kroger, the newly renovated Green Hills Kroger that is, haha. Also, to all those who've never been to Nashville, this Kroger has valet parking.

awesome story man. Pretty tall isnt he? haha. Yeah all of the family is very excited about Blake coming up here. I'm still surprised that ND never offered him with him being a 3/4 star 2 generation legacy
September 18th, 2011 at 1:17 PM ^
yeah he was pretty tall. I'm a pretty big guy 6'0'' 240 and I was looking up to him. I will try to get over to an MBA game this year and give everyone an update.

Judging by your recent posts, it seems that you personally know the family. Any fluff stories from you? I love hearing anything positive about our recruits and their families.

not really haha. I was just best friends with his older brother Brad until they moved to Nashville going into 6th grade. Brad plays LB at PSU. But we were just close family friends until they moved away....played soccer with Blake back in the day haha.

You were at Koger not Kroger, right?
September 18th, 2011 at 1:42 PM ^
it must have been Koger then, like I said it was early and my eyes were a little crusty still.

but I'm stuck with either Kroger at Nipper's Corner or Nolensville and OHB which is about where I live. Definitely want to make an MBA game this year decked out in Mich gear.
