5th year seniors aren't the same thing at all. You're promised four years. The 5th is an option, up to the team and player agreeing on it. (Yes, sometimes players are actually offered the 5th year and turn it down).
Looks like you have some reading to do:

I used that as one example of how you "find extra roster" spots - I am not saying it is the only way it is done. I offered 3 ways it is done at plenty of schools, including ours, and including Alabama. Maybe Saban also has "other ways" but just about all teams have the 3 ways I listed. Once more where is the moral outrage that Washington, Virginia, Vanderbilt, and Oregon State did it in just about the same magnitude in 2013? As for finding loopholes, I bet a great number of our alumns work at Goldman Sachs (or Morgan Stanley) which I believe the entire business model is "find loopholes to exploit and profit from". Many would call those alumns brilliant and milking the system, and they'd be paid excessive amounts for finding holes in the system to exploit. But when Saban does it, we are morally superior? I realize it's apples to oranges but you get the drift.

Nick Saban being one of them. I am extremely happy that we have Brady, who happens to be one of them.

Whoooooaaah, hang on there, pal. Hoke is great, but he is not the best in football. Nick Saban is number one and it's really not even close. Meyer, during his time at Florida, was number two, but his time at Ohio will determine if his greatness will continue.

He turned around a program that was sinking and brought back the base. He used the players he had to bring back the wins. And he got national attention for getting some splashy recruit. Has he had the best record ? No. But the wins will come. And I am confident that the program will be run the right way.
Look at les miles. We wanted him so much. But now that the Oklahoma State story broke, I feel like we dodged a bullet.
For me, having a prestigious program is more important than winning. Coaches who win at all cost end up falling in disgrace. Look at sweater vest and paterno.
Yes the school and the fanbase will judge Hoke on wins and losses. But sometimes how you win matters too. Our recruits are studs and awesome people. Our coaches are intelligent and of good character. And the Michigan brand is riding high.
Is there any other coach I would want? Nope.

Shaking hands with Notre Dame at the end of the game before rushing to the student section. Way to keep it classy coach.

Well, it was a 15 round heavy weight fight. And it was after midnight. And he probably got about 4 hours sleep the previous night.
So although they won't make a movie based on that speech, the message was loud and clear.

What exactly is so remarkable about this one-minute speech?
"We played sixty minutes of football... Michigan football... when the offense needed a big play, they made it... when the defense needed a stop, they made it... this is why we are so blessed to be at Michigan..."
I don't get it. What part of that speech was anything other than routine coach-speak? To read this thread, you'd think it was Winston Churchill.
Mind you, this is not a knock on Brady Hoke. He didn't do the video, nor did he post it on the 'net. It was after the game; it didn't matter much what he said. And there is not one word of this that is in any way a bad reflection on Hoke. There's nothing negative to be gleaned from it, and no reason whatsoever to criticize Hoke.
What gets me is this board's reaction to the video.
So please somebody explain to me one single thing about this that is supposed to amaze me.

Agreed. It wasn't bad. It wasn't awe-inspiring either.

Please allow me to say for the Nth time; I'm sorry. I'm sorry to all of you, and I'm sorry to Brady Hoke. I was NOT impressed with his hire, to say the least. I thought RR was a genius hire, and Hoke was a joke. I am George Costanza. Ask me what I think and do the opposite.
Now, I'm not going to go as far as say he's the best coach in the country, but I am really, REALLY glad he's Michigan's coach. CROW: Eaten.
Now don't start sucking just because I like you, Brady...

Hoke is great, and is a great recruiter, and am glad to have him....... but speeches aren't his strongpoint... Bo was the man.
September 11th, 2013 at 2:37 PM ^
All of Bo's crappy or average speeches.
September 11th, 2013 at 5:29 PM ^
thats funny, however is not accurate.. ....for Bo was as eloquent a speechgiver, as it gets... he was oustanding in every way, when giving team speeches. I challenge you to find even one, that was not inspiring.

in channeling JFK right after you beat Notre Dame. That you save for pregames in November.

I feared MANBALL too. I admit I was skeptical of the hire. Glad to be made the fool on this one. Hoke is 21st century Bo.
