Here's a thought....

In all seriousness, if Michigan goes 7-5, or even 6-6 with a win over Ohio State, the season (record-wise) is pretty on par where most of us thought it would be. He will get a third year, and will be judged on that. If you think he's going to get fired this year, you're seriously either a meth, heroin, or crack addict. That being said, anything less than 9-10 wins next year and we can all be justified in blowing our collective gaskets. Here's the bottom line: We shouldn't have all started sucking each other's dicks after the 4-0 start, and we all shouldn't start breaking out the torches and pitchforks now.

It's great to still be positive and all, but have you watched this team the past 2 weeks? They are unbelievably bad right now. I know things can change, but at this point in the season, you are who you are. There is no way in hell that Michigan even is going to stay on the field with OSU. Our Offense right now is as bad as the defense. Tate doesn't even look like a freshman right now, we'd be better of if he did. This is the saddest point in Michigan football that I can remember since I have been watching them from the early 80's when I was a kid.

None of us can. We will all – at least I hope- be rooting for Michigan against osu, but again, if we can’t stop juice…we will have major problems against pryor. I know pryor hasn’t been that good, but he’s better than juice and osu is 100x better than illi. I’m rooting for um all the way but, I’m not betting any money.

I know we can say it's hard to cover Pryor when we can't cover Juice, but is this really a good comparison? Juice will run the ball far more often than Pryor just because of the offensive schemes. I guess I'm just hoping for a series of turnovers from Pryor like what he did against Purdue. I'm looking to not be utterly depressed on November 21. I started my undergrad in 2004, and losing 5 years in a row to OSU is taking its toll on me.

also, i thought that juice made some very good reads on the defense on whether to hand off or keep the ball today, as well as some damn good ball fakes, he has the experience...while pryor is known for making terrible reads...im not saying we will def beat OSU but we've got a shot

but I noticed that Illinois defensed Tate differently than we defensed Juice. Illinois, like PSU last week, appeared to maintain containment while squeezing the pocket. M's seems more one-on-one: safety comes in unblocked, can only tackle one guy, and tackles the wrong guy 80% of the time.

how long have you been a Michigan fan? Do you think those crappy 1990's era Moeller and Carr coached teams who beat those Top 5 Ohio State teams doubted themselves? This team very well may be blown off the field by OSU, but I'm not giving up on them. If you are, go fuck yourself.

That OSU lost to Purdue not too long ago. I stil have hope for us. I'm not predicting a win from this, but it shows a less than stellar team can beat them. Go Blue.

And we're looking at Michigan after two terrible performances. We haven't played terrible in every game. Right now, it's simply the turnover margin. 4 turnovers in the redzone will demolish and demoralize any team (and it's fanbase). On the bright side, we've seen what this team can do when it's clicking and I know that team is better than what OSU has been putting together this year. We have a chance next week to right the ship at home against Purdue. I'll be there in person and I can't wait. Go Blue!

A little perspective is helpful, indeed. I hated watching that game today, but what the hell can we really expect? Henne, Hart, Edwards, and Long 2.0? This is a very young team under a 2nd year HC and a 1st year DC coming off of a 3-9 season. Let's reserve judgement until next year, please.

That involved beating Illinois, not getting blown out by them. A win over Wisconsin (or OSU) would help (completely) negate this loss, but at the same time, nothing of the kind is guaranteed. Merely getting to a bowl game might be on par with our preseason expectations. However, regressing as the season went on was not. I can accept regressing as a result of injuries combined with poor depth. The way that the offense and defense seem to be steadily getting worse is very disheartening.

I don't think we're getting all that much worse. Rather, I think that 9 games into the season, teams know how our weaknesses and exploit them. This wasn't true in the beginning of the year. Also, the competition level we're facing now is substantially better, and while Illinois might have been 1-6 coming into the game, they have talent. Williams is very talented in the right system, and he showed it today. His fakes on the option are extremely believable. I'll be the first to admit that I thought Illinois might be an outside candidate for the Big Ten title to start the season. Certainly this won't happen now. But they have talent. It's just, they also have Ron Zook. The fact is, Rodriguez's system is based on a lot of reads and options. Our QB's aren't good at running the zone option, a staple play for Rodriguez. Our offensive line can't get even 1 yard of push on the goal line in four tries. Our receivers can't get open, and drop the ball frequently when they do. Do you guys honestly believe that the coaches don't work on this stuff in practice? We're young, and young players get antsy. They might have all the confidence in the world in practice, but in games they screw up. This is what young players do. We played TWO walk-ons today. What did you expect?

Seth9

First of all, the fact that other teams are recognizing our weaknesses is no excuse. Our coaches should recognize our weaknesses too and compensate and/or mitigate them. They have not. I realize that they've worked on them, but they've been unsuccessful. Secondly, I expected a win. Saying that Illinois is more talented than us but have an awful coach may well be accurate. However, if that is the case, then every other coach in the league has, thus far, managed to out-coach Ron Zook except for Rich Rodriguez. If this is the case, then we should still be pointing a finger at the coaches for failing. Quite simply, there is no way to mitigate this disaster. It's just a question of who is to blame. I personally have singled out Jay Hopson and the linebacking corp as one of the primary reasons for our failings. Hence this: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/fire-jay-hopson By no means are the linebackers are only problem. However, they seem the best example the team has insofar as lacking improvement (unless you really want to point the finger at our freshman QBs).

That's total crap. We fumbled the ball, I dindn't keep a tally, but it seemed like 7 times today. We're more talented than Illinois. We had them down, and they had just about given up. As far as push on the goal line, I don't know I just think it was a huge huge mistake not to give it Grady or Brandon before 4th down, not to call qb sneak while noone over center, and not to try a rollout or something at least. I'd say we were outcoached by the Zooker -- which is really a sad statement.

I'm not writing them off yet, but this was the best chance to get bowl eligible, and that was the worst execution of the season. They're supposed to be getting better as the season wears on.

is that at this point last year we just came off horrible losses to a bad Purdue team and riding a 5 game losing streak. No one expected us to do anything up in Minnesota and the team turned in its best overall performance of the season. Thats really all we can hope for next week.

I expect next week to be as loud as it's been all season - it should be, because next week could be our season. If it's not loud, then the fans aren't right.

Today was horse shit. Like all of you, I have a finite amount of hours in my day to allocate to various obligations and interests. While I've been a passionate supporter of this football team since childhood, and will continue to be until I die, I am reallocating hours devoted to this team for the remainder of the season. 3 hours for each of the next 3 Saturdays, and 3 hours for any possible bowl game. No more, whatsoever. The football suicide that took place today just sucked too much life out of me. I'll recover, and be back for more, but jeez, guys, I need some space. Lets take a break. See you around the spring game. Maybe basketball season. All my love, The Flying Dutchman

If this exact same team puts the ball in the endzone on one of 4 downs, the D doesn't get totally deflated by a 99.5-yard drive, the offense doesn't start panicking, mike williams maybe still misses a few key tackles but at worst we lose a close-fought game, and most likely we win against a 1-6 team that would've folded and put in their backup QB. Let's say they beat Purdue, lose the rest. They're 6-6 playing in a crappy bowl. Let's say they won today. They're 7-5 playing in a less-crappy-but-still-pretty-crappy bowl. This one game was a disaster more than any other game this year, but it doesn't warrant the meltdown that it's receiving. Sometimes a perfect storm of failure comes together.

if this type of loss had happened in the first three games of the season, I might agree with you. But to see this in the 9th game of the season, against a team that hadn't beaten a FBS team, and to see us digressing on both sides of the ball, definitely justifies a meltdown.

At the beginning of the season, Brian predicted a possible 5-7 season as the bottom. This is what we might end up with realistically. Yes, it's ugly. Yes, we did not play well in October (DSU doesn't count). We have realized our minimum, and any other win is a plus. I would consider 6-6 this season a success, regardless of how we lost. It just means we need more experience and an improved secondary. Source: http://mgoblog.com/node?page=35
