Help Wanted

Submitted by joeyb on

I'm working on an application to diagram football plays. I've got the offense pretty much done, but the defense is way more complex than I'd like it to be. I'm wondering if anyone out there with a good knowledge of how a defense is supposed to work would be willing to answer some questions for me so that I can finish this up and get it posted online for people to use. It's probably going to require a bit of back and forth for a couple of weeks while I try to figure out rules for defensive alignment.

If anyone is interested, would you please email me at the above email address at gmail?

Not the OPs fault but I'm a wee bit jaded on helping out fellow MGobloggers with their homework assaignments.  Last week somebody posted they needed help in completing some project and had 10 questions they needed a senior level manager to answer. I volunteered and asked when he needed them by.  He said by the end of the day so I literally carved out an hour of my schedule to help him.

And not so much as even an email thank you or even an acknowledgement it was recieved.

I remeber this post and also seeing that you were willing to help.  I guess the first red flag for me would have been that he said that he needed the information by the end of the day.  If he had been more on the ball he would have been asking for help a little sooner.  Even though a quick note saying thank you would have been greatly appreciated when I hear the time frame you were given I am not surprised that you did not get a proper thank you.  Hopefully that guy figures things or he will have a tough time out in the business world.  It does not take long to determine if someone is reliable or not and this is one indicator.

+1 to you for stepping up and helping this guy out.

That sounds like an interesting idea, OP. I could be of no use in helping you make this program, but I'm curious - would it allow the user to diagram potential plays? Or will it be a database of plays our Wolverines ran this year?  Either way, kudos, that's a cool idea!

That's the fun thing about programming. I can make it do pretty much anything except generate a random number.

I just want to get it working first. My thought is to have a wiki-based site that allows people to diagram plays, attach a video of the play, describe what's going on, etc. But, as long as the program exists, there's no reason that it can't be used for drawing up new plays.
