Hello: Kyle Seychel (preferred walk-on kicker/punter)

Submitted by Raoul on

Saw this on Twitter. Kyle Seychel is a kicker/punter from Hartland, Michigan, class of 2014.

Kyle Seychel just committed to Michigan as a preferred walk-on (Fab 50 #3 PK/#5 P) http://t.co/6pndroGagg #GoBlue

From his Kornblue Kicking profile

Kyle is one of the top combo prospects in the class of 2014. He has as much potential as any specialist we have ever worked with in Michigan, and that includes numerous Division 1 scholarship athletes. . . . We don’t say this often, but Kyle has NFL potential.

You beat me by two minutes! Welcome, Kyle!

He's a three star kicker at ESPN. Because of his position and ranking, isn't he more likely to contribute than most walk-ons?

A small sample of yardage and hang time from a camp appearance is quoted -

At the September 2013 Michigan Fab 50 Camp, Kyle charted a kickoff of 77 yards/4.0 HT. His 5 kickoffs averaged 71/4.05. His first 6 punts charted 4.22/38, 4.53/45, 4.09/30, 4.25/43, 4.4/44, and 4.4/48. We don’t say this often, but Kyle has NFL potential.

Welcome to Michigan, Kyle Seychel!

  • Googled Chris Seychel
  • found his facebook (confirmed UofM Class of '86)
  • looked to see if Kyle was listed as a family member. He is not
  • However, Chris and Kyle are friends as Kyle showed up in his list of public friends
  • Chris apparently lives in Howell which is right by Hartland which is where Kyle goes to school
  • So I would guess Kyle Seychel is indeed Chris Seychel's son

So after that thorough creeping, it's time for me to take a break from the interweb for a while

That's the beautiful thing about this board.  If i resist the urge to creep because of some rationality telling me to stop because it's absurd, even though deep down I really want to, there's always another member that has gone ahead and did your dirty work.  Bravo.

At least we'll have someone with a year on campus and a year at kicker at before David arrives to challenge for the starting spot as a true freshman.

Even though it says Novi, Michigan (where Detroit Catholic Central is) Shallman is a Hartland kid as well.  Interesting to see Seychel's video.  Looks like he is using Howell's field which is a close competitor in their league.  Also think there is a wrestler going to Michigan from Hartland although I can't remember his name.  He was in a lighter weight class and dad was a big time wrestler at the school.

Hope he earns a scholie (if that's in play at all).  Punters (and kickers) are underrated in my book.  Turn the field over when you are deep in your own territory can really change the face of the game.  Cool that he also kicks off, good to have backup capabilities in case the primary KO or FG guy goes down.
