Having multiple rivals

Submitted by erald01 on
As me and my friends are watching the B1G championship game we were talking about how UofM has a bigger dissadvantage when it comes to rivalry games compared to other big ten teams. We have 3 main rivals who literally hate our guts (OSU, MSU and ND), and is it fair to say that it is a lot harder to prepare for 3 huge rivalry games as opposed to one? MSU's superbowl is against us and also OSU's superbowl is against us, so for them its a lot easier to prepare super hard for that ONE game...as opposed to us or ND that have to prepare for 3 major rival games. Curious to know whats other fans take on this?

One. We have one rivalry. Ohio. We, as a fan base, measure all our successes and failures on the relation to that school. Everything else is theater. Don't get me wrong, ND is nice but it was forced upon us by ADs and TV execs. MSU is nice, but a lot us have friends, family with ties to East Lansing. I don't hate MSU. Many have already pointed out that our historical success makes us "rivals" with many, many schools. Toledo war, Bo, Woody. Griffin & Woodson. 10 year war, snow bowl, '69, 313, go for two. Nothing against ND & MSU, but last game of the season, it really feels like UM has four phases of the season ( in chronological order): 1. Preseason 2. B1G 3. Ohio 4. Bowl Sans maybe iron bowl, Red Sox / Yankees, USSR/ USA, there is nothing like it in all of sport...... Just my $0.02 (like most things on the internet )

This post proves one thing: you have one rival.

Everyone's got a different order for Michigan's rivalries, because at the end of the day it's usually based on who's around you and who will give you the most crap about a loss. For me, I like beating OSU more than MSU, but I dislike losing to MSU more because there are a ton of MSU fans around me that tend to get annoying if they win.
