Harbaugh tweet directed at Butch Jones

Submitted by Candor for Sale on

Harbaugh is out here slaying everyone.

Suggestion to my Rocky Top colleague, rather than lunch in Florida you might spend your time and focus attending to your present team.

I think this goes to Harbaugh's "the sport is under attack" position.  Anything that gives the sport a bad name would hit a particularly sensitive nerve.  MSU and Arkansas are fine and just tossing out tepid snark, but when you get a program like Tennessee's trying to pile on... stand by.

Frankly, I consider Harbaugh's response measured given his relative level of passion.

I support the coach but maybe he went to far on this one considering the seriousness of whats going on down there. just saying.....

If that were true why did he single out Butch? The MSU and Arkansas coaches were rebuffed from the practice. I'd get if Butch had said something negative about Harbaughs "recruiting practices" or the IMG thing ala Kirby Smart or Malzahn. I love everything Harbaugh does but This is the first time an action of his has cross into "unnecessary needling" territory. No need to paint a target on his back among coaches.

I think he singled out Butch b/c of the issues at U-T right now.  The tongue-in-cheek jokes from Bret and Mark didn't get a response from JMFH, but Butch shouldn't be throwing stones at anyone's houses these days.  Jim was basically saying, deal with the pox in your house right now and don't worry about the rest of us.

I have a feeling this shows that the U-T issues are REALLY under Jim's skin; as one poster said above, it's more fuel for the "game is under attack" thing that rankles Jim so much.

Given how tongue-inch-cheek Butch's short tweet was, Jim's response seems a bit disproportionate and out of turn.  So I can only attribute that to some underlying issues, and U-T culture issues have to be them.

Although, it's also possible this is just a remaining leftover of the whole Woodson/Manning thing, were we TOTALLY CRUSHED them.

I totally agree that Butch Jones and the rest of them Yahoos needs to pay for the crap that has went on down there, i am just saying that there is way more at stake then ripping Butch a new one but it involves young women whos lives will never be the same because of over privelaged thugs. Sometimes you just have to pick and choose your battles.

Yes, you do have to pick and choose your battles. I think this is a dang good battle to pick. He's definitely not siding with UT on this one. Young women whose lives will never be the same are involved, and Harbaugh is clearly siding with them if that's what the tweet is actually referring to, which I would think it is given the exclusion of the other coaches involved.

No way did Harbaugh go too far with his tweet. He simply stated that Butch should focus his attention on UT, and not worry about a spring practice.

I'm sure we have some users here (MeanJoe, FauxMo, MadHatter) could think of an alternative tweet Harbaugh could have sent that would definitely be crossing the line.

He's reminding Butch and the rest of the SEC/NCAA about that exact fact. Because they've clearly been out of focus lately. Harbaugh has shown more public concern over it by this one tweet than I've heard coming out of the parties that should be most concerned.

In my highschool we called them cuts, as in "oh man he just cut you," when you would have an insult battle.   I once saw a book where they called them snaps.   But hell,  Harbaugh is the Cut King.   Players and recruits got to love that.

put that moron on blast.

And to those saying that this is just too much because of the seriousness of the charges, that's exactly why Harbaugh should be going after this slow witted idiot, he should be minding his own business, dudes got scandals coming out of his ears, and he's trying to be funny about attending a UM spring practice.

Notice Harbaugh didn't have any snarky response for either Beilema or dantonio, their programs aren't being investigated for promoting a rape culture, Hugh Freeze at least has had the good sense to shut up about the faux spring practice outrage.

As coach of the 49ers, Harbaugh wasn't involved with Twitter because it added nothing to his only goal: winning. Now, he has to recruit, and the kids he's recruiting love the Twitter culture. Like everything else he he does, his tweets are directed toward making Michigan more attractive to players for the purpose of winning football games.

this fall just due to Harbaugh calling everybody out like this!  Now he's going to challenge the team to have his back.   (Reminds me of Harbaugh guaranteeing a win over OSU in 1986 when he was UM's QB, and Bo challenging the team to go out and back him up!)

Proving once and for all that passive-aggressive snark is nothing but cheap whining in the face of honest candor.

I can't wait to play the SEC in a bowl game next year.  Can we just leave the B1G and go to the SEC just so we can beat up on these clowns every year?

"They" say teams take on the personality of their coach. Love this. Not afraid to take on anyone, at anytime. The competitive nature of this team is going to grow exponentially each year.

Instead of picking the biggest bully and punching him in the face, Harbaugh is picking the biggest gang of bullies and punching them in the face.  Great to see the SEC get all riled up!
