A picture says a thousand words.

Harbaugh speaking with the #6 ranked, B1G Regular Season Champion Women's Gymnastics team the day before they host the B1G Championhips at Crisler Center.

"Class, let's turn to problem 4.  May I have a volunteer come step up to the board and show us how you solved it?  Anyone?  Anyone?  No volunteers?  OK, then, I'll have to choose.  Mr killerseafood3."

"Uh...uh...uh...(hides brilliant answer in notebook)...I didn't do my homework."

It's great that Harbaugh is all in with Michgan athletics overall.  That's great stuff.

I look at this picture and I think -- "Those student athletes weren't even born when Harbaugh played there (1984), and not even born when Bo last coached there (1989)."

To me -- a card-carrying old fart -- I remember those days.  But to a younger person I wonder what goes through their mind.  Yeah, "Harbaugh!" ... but I suspect Harbaugh's stature is more from the 49ers (at this point) than his 1980's playing days.  And what about Bo?  Do young people today** have a sense for the prominence of Bo during his tenure as coach?  Or is he just a guy who has a building named after him?

** WD, you don't count ... you're a freak of nature when it comes to Michigan history.

Everyone on campus knows who Bo is, except for maybe the most extreme athletically-uninterested students.. I would guess Harbaugh is more known for recent stuff as opposed to athletic days though. Without his coaching accomplishments and current social media celebrity status, I don't think he is as big of a former student athlete as many others who are looked back at for long periods of time, although his family is pretty well known to most. That's more a testament to how many other amszing athletes we've had come through campus.

since i was 2 when bo retired, i really have no sense for the prominence of bo, but i have read enough books and anecdotes to appreciate the uniqueness and dedication of the man. i also try to catch the throw back games on btn w bo coaching. those offenses, though power run, had tons of misdirection and play fakes; really exciting. it wasn't just being tough and running off tackle for 3 yards, and reminded me a lot of the 49er's offense a couple of years ago when they were running a lot of pistol.

I love seeing just how involved he's getting in every aspect of Michigan athletics. Not just stuff like showing up at halftime of basketball games, but showing up at women's basketball games, talking to the gymnastics team, and everything in between.

He looks like he is legitimately having fun in this job. I wonder if just the structure and "corporate-ness" of the NFL didn't suit him much. Given his personality style it wouldn't shock me.

I guess being treated like a god in Ann Arbor doesn't hurt, either.

Maybe I could be wrong but I see this guy being a big part of the athletic department for decades to come. Well beyond his coaching career. I truly believe that he is going to be the next great name in the lineage of great personalities of Michigan athletics. He's the only real tie we have to those glory days and seeing him be a living, breathing example to all the different groups on campus he can affect is just fucking awesome. Sorry for the vulgarity but I don't know how else to say it
