Grew up in Philly (Lower Merion HS, other grads are Kobe Bryant and McLovin). I was in 11th grade the year before Springsteen exploded with the Born to Run album. (Kids, an album is . . Ok). In Philly, Bruce was everywhere a full year before that, while unknown nationally. He was constantly on FM radio. WMMR, etc. All the songs from the first two albums. He would frequently play at the Tower theatre (2000 seats) but I never went. The songs were hard to hear, as the songs were high in emotion but not high in melody. One day I heard "For You" for the hundredth time, and I finally could hear it.
When he exploded one year later, I realized I missed the old piano player and the old dynamic arrangements (that was a thing back then), and I didn't care for the Born to Run album. For me, there will never be anything like The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle. Kitty's Back, Rosalita, Sandy (the latter had to be listened to on the boardwalk at Atlantic City before gambling), Incident on 57th street, and the late night song at the end. There was nothing like it, to this day, even by the Boss. Wanted you to know.

Born to Run is one of my favorite albums. Jungleland in particular is easily one of my favorite songs. Everything from the piano open, the tragic love story, the urban imagery, and of course the Clarence Clemons with that incredible saxophone solo. That song and album really got me into Bruce's music.

The sportswriters at this concert must have been like "we can't get a break from this guy." Because you know there were a ton of sportswriters at this show.
