Happy Thanksgiving - What are you plans?

Submitted by UMProud on November 27th, 2019 at 9:25 AM

Happy Thanksgiving!  What is everyone's plans?  Have my folks coming over for turkey dinner, drinks and will be watching the Loins lose to the Bears.  Planning for  evening Turkey sandwiches, drinks and maybe a movie if the 7:30 ET Ole Miss / Miss State game sucks.

MGoSon will be at his fiancees family dinner, MGoDaughter will be at her boyfriends family dinner, so the Old Lady and I are heading to my moms.

Beer, alcohol, food, watch Lions lose ...

I'm going to writhe in emotional agony for a few days and then have my guts metaphorically ripped out on Saturday around noon.  If that goes to plan, I will christen my new and improved guts with delicious beer all evening.

Was going over to my parents house first and then my wife's family's house after. Though my Thanksgiving has been ruined, since my wife left her Facebook messenger open on our computer yesterday and I discovered a very explicit and inappropriate conversation with someone else when I went  use it. So maybe my honest answer is I should be talking to a divorce attorney since this happened once before and I told her if it happened again that was it. Yes, TMI I know, but I guess I was just looking to vent in a relatively anonymous manner.

If it would make you feel better I've been told I give a mean hand job

Plus I take pictures sometimes and we could send one to your wife so she knows that she's not the only one having a good time

In all seriousness though,  keep your head up. This is a shit situation but you'll come out on the other side a better and stronger person

Wow... I am so, so sorry to read that. Kind of a stunner. I can’t imagine how you are feeling right now with tomorrow looming.

Occasionally we get glimpses of each other's personal lives here and when it occurs it always makes me step back and realize there’s bigger things in life than football. Don’t know what to say other than I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry M96.

Very true, at the end of the day it's just a game on  Saturday. I would obviously love if UM won, but unfortunately for me an OSU win would not be the biggest blow I was dealt this week. I mean I will say my initial message was a bit unclear in that it looks like it was only sexting and not physical, but at least to me sexting is the same as cheating.

Sorry man. Obviously, time to move forward with the rest of your life and possibly find someone better.

If you're in Michigan, that's a no-fault state, not much to do but go through the paces. I believe judges can still consider what caused the dissolution of the marriage, but you can't bring adultery as a grounds for the divorce itself (CAVEAT: I'M NOT A FAMILY LAWYER, THIS IS JUST MY UNDERSTANDING AS A SIMPLE COUNTRY LAWYER LIVING IN CALIFORNIA).

But if you're in Ohio or another state with the option for fault-based divorce, talk to a divorce attorney before you call her out on it. If she gets convinced you're going to file for divorce, she may race you to the courthouse and file as a no-fault divorce, which won't make you feel like justice was served in this case. If you've got the stomach for it, a contested divorce will let you keep more of the assets and avoid alimony (or get it). Here's a blurb:

Ohio is one of the minority of states that still allow for fault-based divorce. The fault-based grounds for divorce in Ohio include adultery, fraudulent inducement to marry, extreme cruelty, gross neglect, habitual drunkenness, imprisonment and willful absence for more than one year.

Thanksgiving truly is the greatest of the holidays.

Doing some minimal cooking for a family feast, eat, watch the Lions fail miserably while enjoying a beverage or two, nap.  Then have leftovers and three more days of non-work and, oh yeah, the biggest game of the year.

Daughter is home visiting from her second year at U of M.   Lots of family time and gorging on delicious food.    Very much looking forward to watching The Game with her and hearing more about her game-day experiences at Michigan Stadium this year.    The downside:  she didn't risk bringing her Juwan Howard bobblehead home for fear that it would get mishandled on her flight.   Maybe over winter break.

Watching my son play his final high school Thanksgiving AM game against their rival tomorrow at 10 AM.  One of the great football traditions, the Thanksgiving AM rivalry games in Massachusetts.  We may not be a hotbed of national recruits (except the Don Brown studs coming to Michigan) but what a great way to start Thanksgiving.  Sure beats the hell of the Michigan tradition of watching the Lions lose!!!  Would love to hear Coach Brown talk about this.

Many years ago, the great Curt Cowdy talked about this tradition.

all of our children are home as of last night.  we had a full, loud house last night, as it should be.  will go hunting, stay home, cook.   will break up the weekend on saturday to make a trip to 'the game' with one of kids.  no other travel, no work.

We’ve been married 39 years and during that time we’ve spent 37 of those years at both sides, my family early afternoon and my wife’s family late afternoon. During those years, those get togethers have expanded greatly with kids and grandkids.

The past two years however, we’ve spent out here in Pasadena with our youngest kid. It’s all good but I miss my grandkids terribly.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! So much to be thankful for! Go Blue!

After a number of years of being "between traditions" (my family had a robust Thanksgiving tradition involving my mom's family meeting in Grand Rapids, but after marriage and moves out of state, that became difficult to attend) we've finally settled on one we love. We invite people from our church to our house who, like us, do not have family in town. Mostly transplants and such. This year we anticipate 9 adults and 18 kids, including our own family.

We don't have a big place. It'll be a tight fit. But it's a lot of fun.

One deep fried turkey, one smoked turkey, a bunch of great side dishes, and even some football trash talk. It'll be awesome.

I'm making dinner for my family of four and our mother-in-laws. We always marvel at how both mil's put ice cubes in their white wine. Must be an old lady thing. My husband's mother has celiac disease so the whole meal is gluten-free. I've been doing it for about 7 years and have it down, but I really miss a good sourdough stuffing with chestnuts and pie for dessert.
