Happy Lunar New Year!

chúc mừng năm mới to those of you that celebrate the holiday popularly known as Tet in Vietnamese.  It's a  holiday with a lot of significance for our family (the non-inbred side) and it's widely celebrated throughout Asia.

So football interests aside, here's hoping all of you true blue Michigan fans, rcmb goons, and 11worriers lurkers have good health and a prosperous year as we welcome in the year of the dragon.

Happy Lunar New Year! There's a pretty good sized Vietnamese population down here, so it's a pretty big deal.

But I refuse to wear red...in any shade...especially scarlet.

We say xīn nián kuài lè in my house. Wifey is from Taiwan. Happy New Year.

It’s a huge party weekend for us. FIL’s birthday is today. He’s 87. And tomorrow is the Super Bowl.

Even better, it finally stopped raining so I can go outside.

i was just saying this to nobody: chúc mừng năm mới.   did you all have a LNYE party last night?

seriously, blessings to you and yours my friend, regardless of which calendar you're looking at.

Last night was food shopping, cleaning and chilling (not supposed to clean on New Year's Day). Today's going to involve lots of good eats, drinking, and games with the family.

Thanks for the well wishes, and likewise to you and your family as well. We're fortunate that my oldest got to swap shifts with someone at work and can join us later in the day. It's been a real tough year for him since his mom (my ex) got cancer. Prognosis isn't great, so any opportunity to boost his spirits is a blessing.

My Chinese fiancee has been gracious enough to watch Michigan football with me for the last three years. When we were at a hotel during the Rose Bowl, and Michigan scored the game tying TD while she was at the hotel bar, she even made a point of going back to the bar for the Corum TD and then returned again in time for the Milroe stop.

So I guess it is fair to make me watch the gala today, but I would have preferred Yanxi Palace.

I appreciate that you referred to it as Lunar New Year rather than Chinese New Year. Lots of Vietnamese (and other East/Southeast Asians) are celebrating today! I hope you are enjoying some banh chung and some ruou!

In my neighborhood - where we have PTA newsletters in Chinese - Lunar New Year is a big deal.  We have more houses lit up at night for Lunar New Year (and also for Diwali) than we do for Christmas.

Just don't wander into a Chinese restaurant and expect to get served promptly like usual, which we did once without knowing when we first moved in.
