Happy Birthday to Bo Schembechler and Bob Ufer!!!
Happy Birthday to 2 Michigan Legends - Bo Schembechler and Bob Ufer!
While they both watch over Jimmy from football Valhalla and nod with approval, if they were with us in Ann Arbor they would have been 87 and 96, respectively. Thank you from all the Michigan Maize and Blue fans and Happy Birthday!
Couldn't find many pics with both of them. Bob is on the left.
Further proof that April birthdays are the best :)
Not to brag or anything but mine just so happens to be 4/20, too..........
In high school I worked at a local grocery store. Had this 90-something-year-old woman hand me her license. We had the same birthday so I made a comment. She goes "Do you know who Adolf Hitler is?" lol.
So yeah I often make that connection too, haha
and by the time I was 5 or 6 I was fully indocrinated into M football. By the time I hit high school I knew nothing other than that Bo coached the games and Ufer described them. Truly a blessing. Happy Birthday gentlemen.
I should also note that Bruce Martyn did the Wings and Ernie and Paul did the Tigers during all those years. It was just great.
Ernie and Paul handled the WJR broadcast for about twenty years together, as I recall - that combo lasted until I was in high school in the early 1990s. I remember hearing that for much of that time, Paul Carey was the engineer on the radio broadcast too, which I found kind of interesting really. He was also the Pistons play-by-play guy for three separate and short stints, I think.
I remember when Bo fired Ernie.
So I had the same experience. Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - could call a game like Ufer.
two of the best men ever. Nobody did it like Ufer, and Bo was legend.
Bo rockin that 70's plaid jacket.
